I have been spitting stitches and have two painful abcesses. They are very painful and have been bleeding. I got some antibiotic cover and wonder how long they will take to heal. I see the start of another and a thread, was thinking about trying to remove the thread or will it make things worse??
Surgeon thinks I’m allergic to the sutures!
Any help appreciated xx
I havnt had any abcesses but i have had irritation where my stitches were dissolving on my nipples, i had partial nipple lift and the stitches have been a pain. in the end, the nurse pulled them out last week and i pulled one myself today. but i am in no way suggesting that you do that too, I spoke to the nurse that was dealing with mine over the phone before i did anything, mine havnt been infected just irritated and rising to the surface as they are dissolving, pulling them out left little tiny holes but they healed very quickly once the stitch come out x try ringing your nurse tomorrow and asking for advice or get an appt and maybe the nurse could do something, have you got a dressing over it? if not, it would be good to put a dressing over the little thread you can see just to stop it rubbing on your bras xx
Thanks Hun yes got a dressing on the oozing one and will leave that on for up to a wk if I can. Not sure what to about the other one. Will look tomorrow. I have pulled some threads out at the bottom of both nipples. It left a hole but has scanned over now. Just want the abcess to heal it feels very spongy to touch, hoping its not a cavity xx
mine were little cavities where the a couple of the stitches had dissolved into a liquid adn it was just sitting there, i touched it slightly and this awful green stuff came out. wasnt infection tho, just the liquid that it had dissolved into. wasnt pleasant but all ok now. I would advise a nurse look at this one for you then you dont have to worry xx
Sounds silmilar how long did they take to heal?? Xx
I had a lot of hassle with stitches coming to the surface and had to pull quite a few out in the healing process. I also had three of these kind of infected spots! Like bits of undissolved stitches that came into a sort of spot, of blood and pus. Yuk!! I did a long haul flight to Australia 7wks post op and the first one appeared the evening after my flight arrived, like the air pressure of the flight caused it to come to the surface. In the shower the spot burst and left a half-pea sized hole that freaked me out as I thought I’d then have a huge scar. I was all the way on the other side of the world, so just put a plaster on it and hoped it’d be OK. It healed up/filled in after about a week and now, there’s just a little red mark where it was, no biggie. Exact same thing happened on my return flight home 2 weeks later, but on the other boob, so I really think the flying was a factor in making them come to the surface.
Then, 3.5mths post op, I got another one last week which again, left a biggish hole. It’s healed over now, but I guess, moral of the story is, if your body isn’t fond of the dissolvable stitches, don’t freak out as they do heal up!! Takes about a week.

mine have taken about a week to heal over too, my body really doesnt like them and decided one day to try and reject them all ! had three in one week that played up then one a couple of days ago. healing nicely though, had a quick dressings check and the latest one has healed over it appears so fingers crossed, most of them are gone. i thought they would be dissolved by three and half months! hope i’ve seen the last althought hte nurse said it can take upto 100 days for them to dissolve according to the packaging they come in !
x
Yeah, I was surprised to see things surface after all that time of ‘all good, no problem’, but I guess its effectively the last of bits coming up and out. It’s all good now though, so if it happens to you, don’t worry!!
