Unsure but I have heard it can cause bleeding so may not be recommended. Best ask surgeon I think.

i wanted to take it too, so my nurse got hold of mr c to ask and he is happy for me to take it, he said to start the stated dose the day before, the pharmacist said there were 2 strengths so i bought the strongest. x

Follow your own surgeon’s advice because he/ she has far more knowledge than we do. However, as a qualified herbalist I can tell you than Arnica is a blood thinner, like aspirin. While it doesn’t cause problems for most people unless they’re also on other blood thinners, it CAN do.. there are risks involved such as heavier bleeding, stitches opening, slower healing etc. Personally I haven’t started using Arnica till just now, 7 weeks post op, and I use the cream on my scars. Just be careful x

What about Witch Hazel? My mum swears by it – think it brings the bruising out quicker!

    Menu

Actually one of the oldest remedies for bruising in the world, is a combination of arnica and witch hazel. Witch hazel though is a coagulent, which means it helps the blood to congeal. You should be fine using that instead of arnica although it isn’t quite as effective x

my nan swears by witch hazel, may be a bit too much info but after i had my first daughter id soak a sani towel in it and just sit on it, it was nice and cooling and soathing :)
