Hi Sarah, i had my op last tuesday-unders. And to be honest yes u do need help. The pain side of things isn’t bad but if u push yourself and try and do things u risk causing damage and its just not worth the risk after such a big op My mum was cooking all my meals for me and gettin me ice packs etc. for first 3 days. Have u got a friend who could come and stay with u for a few days?xxx

Hi there, i had my op done last sept, and i needed help as i have two kids. My youungest was only 10 months old at the time, so i was unable to lift him, and change his nappy. You are very stiff and very tired, it really does take it out of you. You sre like this for the first 2 weeks, then begin to feel normal. You will need a bit of help in putting your bra on and tops, and some ppl need help to go to the toilet. I was ok, just found it hard pulling my pants down ha ha!. Also about day 2 after the op, the pain hits you, that morning you wake up, you feel very stiff and very sore, but i did manage to do things for myself. if you have babies then you def need help, but if you have older kids over 5 years old, then id say you,ll be fine. You can get up and cook etc and walk around, its just lifting etc.

However i did have an uplift aswell, so maybe i had more pain from that. Id say get a bit of help for the first 4 days or a week XXX

Depends if you’re having overs or unders. I had overs and live alone, no kids and needed just a bit of help. Had a friend pick me up from the hospital and another come over the next day and helped with doing the dishes and stuff. I think there is a lot more limitation with unders due to increased pain levels afterwards.

Don’t be scared to reach out to friends and ask for help, and it is definitely nice to have someone available those first few days especially.

I found it helpful to stock the fridge with ready meals for a week so I didn’t have to cook, the most strenuous thing was opening the oven door.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

hey hun, sorry but you will definately need help! (unless your children are teens and can look after themselves!) I have two 12 mth old children as you know and there is no way I could have lifted them or done ANYTHING for the first two days…. it’s getting easier now and i’m on day 6 but I’m still needing help with quite a few things. xx

Thanks everyone, my daughter is 6 (going on 16!) so she doesn’t need lifting, dressing etc. Janey, the thought of not being able to pull my pants down for the toilet never crossed my mind but makes perfect sense! oh dear! I’m having overs so i don’t know if thats slightly better?

Thanks for all ur feedback, iv got afew mates who can pop over but makes it difficult coz they work etc.

    xx

I could go the toilet on my own straight after the surgery hun – that shouldn’t be a prob! Mind you everyone is different with their recovery anyway. A girl next to me in hospital was like ‘i’m fine don’t need any pain killers’ and I was like ‘GIVE THEM TO ME NOW!!!’ lol x

Overs are less painful than unders and are quicker to recover from so that would be better for you! x
