I’ve got my ba next week and my dad is driving me there and back. I have noone else to come with me as my mam is watching my son and would prefer another girl with me. What I’m worried about is getting dressed after the op. I will just make him leave the room whenever I get checked up on or when surgeon comes to draw on me but if I can’t dress myself afterwards would nurses be able to help me? I could never ask my dad to and be so embarrassed! It’s already a bit awkward him taking me as I know he doesn’t fully agree with my decision to go ahead with it. Am I worrying for nothing and be able to do it myself? Xx
Hi Hayley, I’m here now after having my op this afternoon. The nurses here are amazing and will help you with anything you need. I am staying in and have no one with me as I told my husband not to come as it would mean a lot of sitting around. All the staff here are fantastic. Hope all goes well Hun xx
Oh that’s good to hear I’ve been trying my best to get someone to come with us but it’s a bit much to ask as it cud be an all day thing. I haven’t booked a hotel because we were just going to drive back I’m now worried incase I have to stay overnight! I’ve never thought of anything like this until now maybe nerves kicking in lol. Why are you staying in if you don’t mind me asking? Xx
They advised me to stay in as I live over an hour away. Plenty of people go home same day though. I feel a bit light headed though so glad that I don’t have to go anywhere tonight x
So have you had to pay the 500? I live 2.5 hours away but with my dad working shifts he could only get one off and would have no one to pick me up in the morning, no idea what to do if they kept me in. it says on my notes that I am a day case though so do you think I could ring my pc just to make sure that happens or would it not make a difference lol doubt the surgeons would hurry up just because of my circumstances xx
It was an extra £400. Might b worth calling your PC to check what she thinks. I think if you are a day case you have to arrive early so that they can make sure you recover well before sending you home.
I’m sure it will all work out fine x
Hey hun I was told by my PC that as I live an hour away I had to stay in a nearby hotel?!and then could go home next day?! I’ll b going on my own too as my hubby will be at home with my girls! I was going to see about stopping over at the hospital but don’t think I can really afford much more! I’m sure the nurses will help you as lots of us go alone and they wouldn’t leave u to struggle alone I’m sure xx
Hi Hayley, I was there on Wednesday and staying overnight too. I went there by myself as my husband has too look after the children. The nurses and doctors there are very nice and helpful, you will be well look after and they’ll help you with everything(that’s including comforting you if you do get a bit emotional). Hubby came to pick me up the next day.
It’s definitely worth mentioning your situation and also your worries to your PC and see what she suggest.
Good luck for your op next week. x x
