Hmm that’s a good thought, buttt I’m guessing with insurance u got to kinda have something go wrong with ur boobies before they re do ur surgery… Like if u broke ur leg, they wud sort it out for you but they wouldn’t just change ur leg for no reason… Might be better to save up as well until u find out.. Lol I only got my op last week n I’m saving up for my next! Haha

My aunt had her Breast reduction done on the NHS but she had to go on a waiting list for like a 1/2 years and she was like a 40K………enough said? loool she had/still has back problems due to them and they were MASSIVEEE and old men would always point them out and be pervy to her about them and make a big deal outta them. Shes a 40DD now and lost like 3 stone of weight. Tbh im getting sick of people’s views on BAs (nothing that been said in here just in general) I used to get ridiculed for having no tits by some inconsiderate idiots, it would be ok if they were kidding on but it was TRUE! And now that iv had them done I still get the odd shitey remark about it, im just like “i cant fucking win” but overall they HAVE made me happier but if it wasnt for some people’s very open oopinions about them in the first place I would never had realised there was even anything “wrong” with me…..even though I paid for my own I still get the “oh I can understand if it’s breast cancer but it’s just stupid to get life-threatening surgery for a stupid reason like that” just want to stick the finger up at these people and be like “F*** off!” plus theres like a 0.1% you’ll die….and thats if you just take a bad reaction to GA or something….its stupid, voicing opinions before they even know the facts…..

Can I just be clear im not referring to anything being said in this post…..just felt a rant come on SORRY GUYS! rant over……

OK, i stayed out of the last ‘debate’ but i want to get my 2 cents in here. Firstly, I totally agree with ticky when it comes to people being able to post what they want, no member has the right to set out guidelines on what can and can not be discussed so long as we approach it in an open minded and supportive manner. The last post was removed because people started causing offense. Lets not do that again, we are here to support and educate one another, not force our beliefs down one anohers throats. Agree to disagree, and if you can’t say anything constructive just don’t click on the link (quote ticky!).

Secondly, I am a qualified social worker specializing in mental health. I have seen such cases and I honestly believe that if some of you had experienced what i have and seen what i have/had my training you may well change your tune. Mental health issues are a world away from physical illness, and every case is as unique as a finger print. Mental illness can manifest itself in an array of complexities, even trained professionals with YEARS of experience are often left baffled. Drugs, institutionalised care and on going support in the way of counselling/therapy causes the tax payer thousands (per patient) on an annual basis. I agree, the majority of people with depression (or any other mental health illness) would not be eligable for a breast augmentation on the NHS. BUT there are cases where it is the best treatment, yes, TREATMENT. and that’s not just breast surgery, rhinoplasty etc would fall under that heading too (i stress, in certain cases). Statements suggesting anyone who accepts a BA on the NHS lacks dignity just reek of ignorance and i think it’s comments like that that result in threads being removed from the MYA forum. I must say, that comment really ticked me off.

This is turning into the longest post in the history of the mya forum so i best stop lol but i’ll leave you with a make believe scenario:

Young girl, sexually and physically abused as a child, very lacking in confidence as it is, then teased for years about having a flat chest causing her to become very socialluy awkward and not able to engage in a fulfilling relationship with a man/woman due to fear of rejection and further teasing/bullying. starts dabbling in substance abuse to get a confidence boost, feels like a new person when she goes out with prosthetics in her bra but still doesnt want anyone to get too close as they may find out. councelling is helping her deal with other issues but her self esteem issues seem to be getting worse. clearly on a downward spiral, is living independantly at the moment but has started displaying signs of mental and physical exhuastion (falling behind on paying bills, very tired from sleepless nights causeing under performance at work etc) has mentioned that she may quit her job as she can’t face going out anymore, she feels paranoid that everyone is looking at and talking about her flat chest. takes her hours to get ready as she feels nothing looks good on her top half, constantly late to work.

solution A – BA at NHS cost of around £2000. if that. government/tax payer saves on cost of possible lifelong antidepressants/therapy, carries on working and living independantly (save on housing costs, possible future institutionalised care in a mental health facility. typically a month in such a place would cost £2000 plus) to name some.

solution B – no BA offered. self esteem continues to spiral downwards. registered off sick at work, consiquently is let go by employer, further blow to confidence, starts recieving government benefits for living expenses and housing etc. needs to go on anti depressants, doesnt pay for prescriptions as on benefits. medication for metal health problems can often can cause physical side effects resulting in the need for further treatment. starts self harming and becomes socially isolated, QUE – on set of severe mental illness such as schizophrenia resulting in institutionalised long term care.

This is a make believe case BUT not far from the truth in many cases. It’s plain to see whats going to cost the tax payer more in the long run. and before anyone says yea but how do you know it’ll work, what if she still feels like shit post op..well how do we know that a cancer patient will survive a biopsy or radio therapy. WE DON’T but it’s worth a try, especially when you weigh up the odds and the alternative looks bleak in comparison.

I hope this has educated and not offended xx

Fantastic post khanni, hit the nail on the head!

I really hate seeing when people cant take serious mental illness seriously, and just think these people get a bit down now and then. I do think some people take advantage of the word ‘depression’, and i think this is why some people now think its not serious, but in the real cases, depression can wreck lives and can even kill x

Becky- it’s ok Hunn Everyones entitled to an outburst :)

Hush- I agree, if you can save up and your naturally a stable person which most of us are, even those with depression as the word depression covers a spectrum of problems. Then it’s immoral to accept a BA on the nhs. I’m referring to a very select few who it may affect on a level much deeper than what a lot of people understand. These people usually don’t want/feel bad about accepting the help any way, it’s cut throat process for a reason that why so many ppl are denied boob jobs. I’m glad your feeling better about yourself now :)

I am referring to a select few cases. The majority of us are strong, if it can mean the difference between someone hurling themselves off a bridge or recovering from an illness then it’s different. I worked with a young man who had never had a job and wouldn’t utter a word to anyone, after months of intensive treatment and a rhinoplasty, that he didn’t ask for but it was evident that the underlying cause of his paranoia and anti social behaviour was his prominent nose so it was offered to him, he was persuaded by his family and now he’s a trainee chef working and paying his own way.

I’m not saying everyone should get given DDs and button noses, HELL NO! I just want to highlight that not Everyones the same and that the ppl shouldn’t try and tar everyone with the same brush xx

Jesus Fairy! Who said they were going to burn down your house?? Over a post? That’s mental!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions its just a shame that these forums get so out of control sometimes, i think its so easy to just write heated things on subjects you feel srongly about when you’re sitting at home or at work behind a computer….wonder if it’d end up in a fight if everyone was sitting in the same room or if everyone would just be polite to eachother drinking tea ha ha, i’d love to see that actually.

Anyway….think we’re all forgetting the main reason we come on this forum, however they get paid for….TITS! :) xx

Yeah it’s not fair and it’s silly really because i’m sure no one actually wants to get in to an arguement, it’s a lighthearted forum for girls (and guys) who want advice on cosmetic surgery. Everyone has been so nice and helpful to me that it’s a shame that someone new comes on the forum and gets a bad view of it.

Things can be taken SOOOOO wrong when it’s typed over the internet compared with what would ACTUALLY be said if you were saying it to a persons face i.e. you might have chosen a different choice of words, tone of voice etc. too so think sometimes need to watch how you come across on the internet so not to upset anyone or sound judging……
