Hi girls,
Does anybody else get confused as to what bra size we are suppose to wear?
Before my ba I had never been measured properly, and just use to wear what felt comfortable. I had nothing to support, so didn’t really think it would matter. However, since my ba I want to protect and support my new twins. But it’s not easy trying to work out your correct bra size! Is your under boob measurement your band size, or do you add 4″/5″ and use that as your band size?? I’m just interested to see if girls with exactly the same under / over measurements, actually wear the same sized bra? Hope I’m making sense lol
Right, so here’s mine;
under boobs I measure 30″
Fullest part of boobs I measure 38″
wearing 34E
We can do our own MYA survey, pre op and post op girlies

Hey hunni.
Measure under your bust and:
add 4ins. if the measurement obtained is an even number of inches or
add 5ins. if the measurement obtained is an odd number of inches.
(For example, if your underbust measurement is 31ins., add 5ins. to obtain bra size 36, or, if your underbust measurement is 30ins. add 4ins. to obtain bra size 34.)
Measure round the fullest part of your bust to determine cup size.
If the bust measurement is:
same as your bra size, your Cup size is A.
1in. more gives Cup size B
2in. more gives Cup size C
3in. more gives Cup size D
4in. more gives Cup size DD
5in. more gives Cup size E
and so on through F, FF and G
So you should be a 34 band and should be DD if you have 4″ added.
Hope that makes sence.
Sorry if it was long winded just trying to help

tammy im 26 under breast which would make me a 30 back
im 34 over breast and wear a 30f/32e which dont comply with the rule, but they fit me perfectly especially the 32E xx
hi fairydust, that’s how I thought you measured for a bra (mind you a 34DD is way too tight for me, but a 34E fits fine. But I was chatting to somebody who measures 30″ under her boobs (same as me) and she wears a 30″ band size? There are a couple of girls on Sofem who say that you should use your under boob measurement as your band size, and adding on the 4/5″ is the old way of measuring? Who knows x
hi nikki, hmmm going by the above rules you should fit into a 30DD but as you say you wear a 30F or 32E Guess you can just throw the rule book out of the window for us ba girls lol x
when i went to ann summers the women in there told me theres no actual rule is it a case of trial and error and that you need to try on everyy bra you intend to buy, this is a part of ba i hate as i spent an hour being fitted for a bra the other day i felt like pulling my hair out lol xx
know what you mean nikki
there are certain types of bra that just don’t seem to fit properly! Thought it would be easier to go bra shopping now, but as you say, you really need to try them on which makes buying bras online a nightmare x
Hey Tammy. My surgeon told me the best way to measure as I’ve never wanted to be measured before but now im having this I don’t mind as I know they’ll soon be gone. He measured me and was telling me as he was doing it. Maybe his old school then lol. I think especially when you’ve had a ba that you need to get measured or fitted for every bra you buy as they fit so different. Pain though because I always shop on line to find a bra you wouldn’t see in stores so where thats concerned think it’s gonna be a pain in the bum. Don’t wanna have to keep sendin them back! x
Tammy I think u should wear a 32f..
I measured a 28 under my breast n the girl who measured me said I could wear a 28 but it would cut into me so a 30 would be more comfortable.. But try a 30 anyway, it might b comfortable.
Measurement I read up said the under breast measurement need to be tight and over breast needs to be loosely measured..
I am a 30f.. But I can fit 30ff and if there isn’t bras in that size I can wear 32e but only if that was last option really…
Maybe u should get fitted again, plus u should always get measured when u go to that particular store cos their bra size varies..
Most online stores has a guide on sizes which show u their measurements they use n how their bras fit, this could help determine how they size differ from others..
Hi Tammy, i’ve found that it’s the european made bras that have the bigger band, so you need a smaller size, and the lady in House of frasier said this is the case, for some reason they make thier bands bigger.
I’m a 32DD most places but need a 30E if they are Freya bra’s or something similar.
Oh and i measure a 32D but have been told that because the implant is bigger at the top than a natural breast i will always need the bra size up, hence wearing a 32DD, hope this helps
Measure 28 under boobs and 36-37 across x
Thank you Tina, i think i might try on a 32F next time i go bra shopping
as some of my 34″ bras are not as tight as they should be i don’t think.
Thanks Ros, I like the Freya bras too, i have one in a 34E and that fits nicely, but think i could have got away with a 32 back. Need to go on a spending spree yipee

Just a question, Tammy, when you wear the 34e do you use the outer hook or the the tighter/ closer hook.. Cos u should really be wearing the outer/ further hook cos over months the straps will stretch and that’s when you can use the closer hooks which the bras will last longer. And if your wearin the closer/tighter hook to start with then definite a 32f is for you if you feel the 34e is not as tight. With the freya, I wear 30ff even though I’m a 30f.
Best to try a few sizes when your next in store trying the bras, you will definitely feel a difference and know which size is more supportive for you. Xx
hi Tina, thanks that makes sense hun, I am using the tighter hooks on the 34E so next time i go bra shopping I’ll try a couple of 32″ Have never ever tried a 32″ bra before, as they look quite small to me, but won’t know unless i try one on i suppose! Thanks for your help x
I’m confused about size too…
I was 36 before BA but got measured in Debenhams last week & they said 34 (E) but it’s on the biggest hook and it’s tight!?!? So I’m thinking of going back to 36 & I’m gutted cos I bought loads of 34 now! Grrr. (maybe I’ll wear them to stretch them)
I had 380 over from an empty C (I thought I’d measure F) I do measure f in some places tho!! So bloody stupid! Grr
