Heloooo! I hate having so much time before the op… My latest worry is drains! I’ve read that alot of people have drains put in after surgery, is it compulsory? Does everyone have them after surgery ? If so what is their purpose? I’ve opted to be a day case but I read that one person had to stay overnight because her drains had to stay in. Just a little bit worried about this bit at the minute! If any post op girls could help me out here! Thank you xxx

Hi Hun I’m a student nurse will try my best to explain, from my research drains are usually used if a uplift is done aswell or sumtimes unders, it’s just a small tube which with drain any excess fluid bleeding etc, they can b taken out if it’s not draining anythin or very little, if alot us draining out then it will b kept in which will mean over night stay. I wouldn’t worth most ba’s don’t hav drains n if u do the possibility if it draining alot is low so don’t worry Hun, ur surgeon shud b able to tell u whether Ull b having a drain… But they can’t always b 100% sure.. Xx

Thank you Amanda and Sarahlouise! Your comments have eased my worries a bit! I’m booked in with kazzazi on 22nd June I wish it was sooner I spend too much time wittering about it! I feel much better about them now. They don’t sound as scary! Good luck with yours too! Bet your counting down now! Xx

The drains are put in to ease swelling (I think), they are some times needed for other reasons too.

I didn’t have drains, but getting them removed is like pulling a stitch out, not painful, just uncomfy xx
