I’m booked to have my breast augmentation this Saturday and have a sinking feeling I’m going to come on my period for then… I’ve been on the pill for the past 12 years and have never taken a break from it or stopped taking it before. When I went for my consultation with my surgeon I was then told I need to stop my pill 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the operation… as I was then on my 7 day break I thought it would be pointless taking the pill for 1.5 weeks to then stop it as would it probably mess my cycle up… So haven’t taken it since but now looking at the dates looks like I will be on my period )-:
Does anyone have any advice on what happens regarding having surgery and being on period?? X

When I saw the nurse she told me it would not be a problem at all, you would just need to wear a pad, not a tampon. Xx

thats weird because i was told wear a tampon not a pad as the expect you to wear see through knickers when you have the surgery so she said tampon will keep it discrete x

Thank you, I guess if it happens I will have to take a supply of both pads and tampons and see what they say at the hospital… The paper knickers thing did cross my mind though x

I had my op yesterday when I got there I told the first nurse I was feeling like I could come on period she told me it wasn’t a problem but I needed to wear a bad, so I took some with me and before I went for surgery I put one on with my paper knickers! Tbh the period pains I’m getting right now are a nice distraction from the boob ache! Lol

I’ve got the implant. Had nothing for 6 months, 2 weeks ago I started spotting and have been on and off ever since. Think I’ll take both pad and tampon just to be sure. X

Oh right that’s weird, she told me that you should take your own cotton nickers and pad. They should probably tell us all the same thing really shouldn’t they!
But yeah take both to be on the safe side x

How annoying, in sure they see it all the time so wouldn’t worry about it. I was also told you could only wear a pad xx

Thanks so much for all your replies! In the end I contacted my nurse at the Nottingham clinic and she told me if I’m on my period I will need to wear a pad and also not to use any tampons 24 hrs before surgery… Not sure about the reason behind that but it’s just what I’ve been told, and also to make the nurse at the hospital aware that I’m on my period… Feeling a little achy and tender boobs, just hope my body will hold out another 3 days before my period!!! Fingers crossed xxx
