Cartilage bump….

Hey everyone, have missed you all this week! Hope you’ve all had a good one. Just wondering if anyone post-op has noticed a tiny hard lump on their nose anywhere? I have developed one on my bridge and am a bit concerned……xxx

Welcome back. I haven’t noticed anything but then I haven’t been touching my nose. Its probably swelling hun as that is really hard.

Hi Talia, I have noticed two tiny bumps (or swellings) above my nostrils. Also, on the side at the top there is a some unevenness. Before the op I was told that might happen but it’s only temporary so I guess it’s part of the healing process and all will be fine at the end. I’m only three and a half weeks post op, there’s lots of healing to go through, keep my fingers crossed!

Yes they say that the swelling will go down unevenly, I am definitely more swollen on my right side than my left and I am 4 weeks post op. The more I sit and look at it the more I notice things, so I’m not gonna look anymore lol. I see Dr G in a couple of weeks so will ask loads of questions.

Cool, thanks girls. I’ve just read a few stories on the web where you don’t notice imperfections till your swelling goes down and then you can feel them…..eeek. Luckily the lovely Tina asked Mario for me and he says it’s all part of the healing process, feeeew! Filly, I think the not looking and not touching is a good idea!xxx

What would we do without her aye!!! Yea its early days yet I’m sure we will all come across bumps and lumps over the next few months xx

Heyaa girlzz jus wanted to ask you like how does ur nose look like after the cast comes off, like how much swelling will there be..cozz im going back to uni in a mOnths time and now its been four days post op n im still all swollen up..im jus scared that ma nose will b rly big when i go bak n ppl will notice!!..hope u like ur noses talia and filly1 is it wot u exactly asked for?? Thnxx

The swelling after cast-ff day is not much, only you would notice it. I had a lot of swelling on my whole face for the first week post op and lots of bruises until 3 weeks after the surgery, but now I look fine. You’ll be fine in a month’s time, don’t worry.

Thnx scully i was quite scared cozz for me its a big difference from my originAl nose so i thought ppl will notice!!lol..so excited to take the cast off cnt wait!!

Yeah, no-one will know you’ve had rhinoplasty in a month. I dyed my hair bright blonde and that’s all anyone noticed!! It’s good if you give them a distraction, plus uni students will have so much catch-up after the summer they will be probably distracted anyway!x

My sixteen-year-old son came back from holiday yesterday. He didn’t know I was planning to have rhinoplasty, so I was worried about his reaction. The difference in my profile is huge now – my nose was long and pointed downwards and had a huge bump. I met him at the airport, he said nothing; went home, he said nothing. After about 12 hours, I asked him whether he could notice any difference in my appearance. He looked at me and said: “I don’t know, have you had a haircut?” I hadn’t. I could not believe it! then I told him to look closer, and after examining me with more attention, he said: “Have you had something done to your face?” Literally I had to point at my profile and he gasped: “Wow, you look different! Now I have to get used to looking at your new nose!” And this after a whole day of not noticing! Now I am going to change my hair and hopefully fewer people will notice.

Scully loool…bless ur son his cute..ye cozz i literally know the whole uni n i ddnt wanna explain myself to everyone!!..bt thnx talia and scully i guess i dont have much to worry about!!lol..omg i cant wait till the cast comes off ma nose is unbelievably itchy im fighting the need to take off the cast my self!!loll xx

The bruising is all gone now, there was a lot under my eyes after the cast was taken off (see my photos) so I got quite a few funny looks that day as I went shopping after two weeks of staying at home. A female shop assistant asked me what had happened to my eyes, and another young male shop assistant said: “Lots of partying last night, ah?” I calmly said, “No, just cosmetic surgery” and he asked what I had had done. When I told him, he said, “Well, your nose looks really nice, it was a bit wonky before, wasn’t it? It looks really straight now.” He made me laugh all the way home!

Then we went on holiday and I wasn’t really worried about the bruising as nobody knew me. Now all the bruising is gone, it took ten days after cast off, I suppose too long but I didn’t mind as I have been on leave all the time and haven’t seen any friends or acquaintances. Only yesterday two friends (not very close ones) met me for coffee but neither said anything, I caught them looking at me a couple of times, but I didn’t say anything either.

I suppose the big test will be tomorrow when I go back to work. Because I have been at the same workplace for a long, long time and everyone knows me – staff and students. So I am quite nervous what sort of comments I’ll hear, the questions I’ll get asked and of course the looks I’ll get. I am hoping for my hairdresser to make me look nice and different this afternoon, so at least there is another distraction.

I’ll keep you updated. You keep your fingers crossed for me!

Actually if nobody notices my new nose once done I think I might be a little upset. After years of telling me that my nose is quite big and maybe one day I may grow into it. My mother is now saying that it’s not that big after all and I shouldn’t be having an operation. I have pointed out that since I walked into a door in June it’s even bigger than it was before and that was the nose I was meant to grow into before it got damaged lol….

LittleChelle in my opinion the best result is when people know you look different but can’t put their finger on it (as it looks natural!!)

Mum’s are so funny, my mum kept telling me it was all in my head and i was going mad….thanks mum, but then after I got it done she was like, “oh god, it looks so much better, it really did overwhelm your face”, O so I wasn’t mad mother! Thank you!!xxxxxx

What about breathing talia, how long until you could breathe noramally through your nose? This is my biggest fear about the whole procedure as im a bit claustraphobic!!

Was anyone else told that their expectations were a little unrealistic at their 2nd consultation with their surgeon? xx

Did everyone have two consultations with the surgeon? I’ve only had 1 and the next time I’ll see him his morning of surgery!!

I think you have to ask babe, but you can have more than one xx

eliza81 after having my first consultation with Dr Gonschior n after setting the date of the surgery i was quite nervous cozz i felt that he didnt get my ideas like how i wanted ma nose to look like n i ddnt give him any pictures in the first consultation so i was scared. So i called MYA and set a date to cc him n when i went to cc him i took pictures with me n proper explained ma self..n he said that he was glad i came bak cozz now im comfortable n stuff..n e ways before the operation he goes through everything with you again..So i say go cc ur surgeon again if ur not comfortable or want to find out more..xx

Eliza, it was a couple of weeks before i could breathe through my nose. I’m going to be honest with you, it’s probably the worst bit, but it’s only an annoyance and it’s sooooo worth it!! Apparently some surgeons give you nose drops, so maybe ask about that.

LittleChelle did he say why it was unrealistic? What are you having done? Don’t worry, Mario kept reminding me to be realistic but I got what I wanted and i’m sure you will as well hun, let me know…. xxxxxxxxx

Hey Talia, I am having the bump taken away which is fine, and then I wanted quite alot of the tip off which he said was a little unrealistic as my tip is quite sort of bigish, but no one has ever commented on my tip before and it looks ok with the current nose but with the new smaller nose it’ll look too big. TBH the tip never really bothered me before he pointed it out. haha. what did you have done hun? xxx

Im going to see DR Gonschior again too as I also felt in my first meeting I didnt really put across what I wanted and I started to worry that id end up with a Micheal Jackson nose or something so Im going to go and see him again! For anyone with an IPHONE, download the dr philip solomos app, it lets u morph ur nose, its amazing!

Dr Gonschior said I had a nice tip but he could make it narrower but that would be up to me, which is the hardest part cos my tip is ok now but im worried itll look too bulky if i dont get it done! I think he can take some cartilidge away doing closed so ill prob stick to that. I think the best thing to do is take a picture of ur ‘desired’ nose and see whether this can be achieved! xxx

Lool sofs87xxx the famous michael jacksons nose was my worst nightmear ..esp for the shape i was going for..i thnk i drove dr G mad telling him to make it loook natural n avoid the famous MJ nose!!lool..but he will understand so goodluck xx
