cleaning scars…some help please

I have to take my steri strips off today and cant remember if your ment to clean them with aqeous and those sorts of products now or in 6weeks. I feel so silly but i’ve got the worst memory! lol xx

Bless ya. i was told not to put any products on my scars for six weeks. I bathed my scars with boiled water with a little salt in it. Use a cotton wool ball for each scar. Dry with a cool setting on your hairdryer. Now I met with my sergeon last week and I was 3 wks po and she said to put bio oil on as my boobs and scars felt dry. So I am doing this aswell. But check with your nurse as thats what they would want you to do to make sure you are doing the right thing. Hope this helps xx

I wouldn’t use anything for 6 weeks. I used the shower head to clean them with just water and then used a clean tissue to wipe them dry x

i agree with belle, i was told not to use anything on scars, so used shower head then dry using hair drier was told not to wipe them..x

Oh yeah I knew that wasn’t quite right. I used a hairdryer to dry them until 6 weeks and then dabbed them with tissue after 6 weeks x

I cleaned them with sterile water and cotton wool pads when I took the strips off, and since then I was told it’s ok to use soap in the shower but I’ve been using hibiscrub shower gel which isn’t the greatest thing but as it’s the stuff they use in hospitals it’s not going to irritate the scars but I was worried some soaps might. My nurse said it’s ok to towel dry the scars but use a clean towel and make sure you use a different part of the towel for each scar so you don’t cross contaminate anything. I tend to just let them air dry tho so I don’t touch them at all. They are healing pretty well, my mum is a nurse so she was very strict with me about what I could and couldn’t do tho, so I have her to thank lol!

aww thanks girls yh used sterile water and pads last night and dried with hair dryer to dry them think i might pick up sme hibiscrub heard about that a couple times of the forum xx

i wouldnt use anything. although, i used an anti bac wipe to clean my boobs.x

Sterile water,clean cotton wool ball,dab don’t rub,and and gently pat dry with a clean towel or use the hair dryer on a cool setting,xxx
