had my first consultation today with the surgeon, they said that mya do offer day cases, but prefer their patients to stay over night, so they can have a drain to drain excess fluid out that causes blood clots…if you don’t stay overnight they recommend a local hotel so you are within 15 mins of highgate…if you are daycase you don’t have drains and are at more risk of blood clots…anyone got any views which is best…overnight stay so much more expensive…I would be so greatful for advice on day or night case?? x
Normally your only a day case if your having unders? Also not all surgeons use drains…..im confused with you chick x
Hey Michelle, I think very few mya surgeons use drains (or from what i’ve heard – I’m almost a week post op with Mr Adamo and i didn’t have drains) and i would be totally against having them – dunno why just personal preference i guess lol I also had overs not unders adn i was a day case. I was just asked whether i would like to stay overnight at my consultation, i said no and that was that. I had an hours journey home in teh car (i didn’t drive myself though). I would say if you are within an hours drive home – go with a day case because i didn’t feel the need to stay overnight (you also have stronger drugs in you to numb the pain to get home haha). Hope this helps xx
Hi michelle
I am having my ba on 27th April with mr adamo at highgate in London!! I’m not having drains as he doesn’t use them but different surgeons do use them!! I live over an hour n half away so am staying over night but in a near by hotel as much cheaper but also very close to highgate if I need to get there in an emergency!! Sure everything will b fine tho! Hope this helps, sorry for essay!!
xx
my surgeon has recommended 470 low profiles for me…i was just really concerned about these drains my surgeon spoke about…feel quite worried if I don’t have them..but so much more money if I do…don’t know what to do…thanks for your replys girlies…x
hi im going day case and having ba in machester.
im booked in to portland street travel lodge cost me £58 for two nights with my bf. BBBAARRGGGIIINNNNN plus its only 10mins drive
i would always recommend a day case cos it saves u £400, i went in as a daycase but my opp was delayed so i didnt get my ba til quite late. my surgeon used drains so i wasnt ready to go home so they kept me in free of charge. if u book a daycase and they or you dont feel ur ready to leave you stay over so y pay more? x
thanks for that sara11, trouble is my surgeon said if i go as a day case she wont use drains, so no possibility of drains not being finished…?? what do you do?? so confused would rather stay overnight just to makesure all is well…but as you say saves you £400 if you don’t??
Wow goldfish that’s a good deal you have got….good luck hun…sounds like are having your ba soon??? x
hmm thats odd that she wont use them if ur a daycase. usually a surgeon either uses them or doesnt regardless. if ur a day case with a surgeon that uses drains ur normally one of the first in to theatre so drains r ready by the evening. i would ask ur pc if there is anyway u can have drains and be in as a day, which surgeon r u using? x
