Is there a minimum amount for deposit? I want to secure a date for my op asap but am wondering how much I need to do that.

In theory could I pay like a 1000 pound deposit and then pay a few installments then put the rest on a credit card?

Or actually could anyone tell me about credit card credit limits? Is there a usual limit for everyone or does it depend on your income? (i am on income support atm)

Hi, I paid £500, you wont be able to get the surgery until you pay in full. Your credit limit on your credit card will depend on your income, mine is £4000, but I earn £27000 a year! Your minimum payment tends to be 3% for a credit card, m&s are offering 0% for 15 months at the moment, and halifax also have the same deal! I hope that helps x

So if I pay a £500 deposit does that set the date?

I think I could pay my deposit a few weeks after my suregon consultation is there an amount of time you have to pay a deposit by to get a date or how does that work? And obviously the deposit comes off the final amount of the surgery yes? Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure I find out as much as possible!

I think once I pay my deposit I will save up half the money and hopefully get the rest on a credit card although I wonder if I can get any money as I am on income support and you earn 27,000 and get 4000 on a card so its not looking hopeful!

    thanks angeljefferson though!

I cant get credit in any shape or form due to not working. I dont get IS or JSA though as my partner works and supports me. When you fill out application forms for credit there is the option to put in “Housewife” or “Unemployed” so I guess it depends on the Creditor. My bank wont give a credit card to anyone who earns less than 7,500k a year though….

I am saving about 2/3rds of the cost of my op then booking. Hoping my other half will get a loan for the last little amount! Really dont fancy getting into too much debt if I can help it. I hate waiting though, patience is NOT my strong point lol. Hoping to save around £300-£500 a month and should have the money together within a year. Just trying to stay focused. Saving isn’t one of my strong points either haha!!

I know saving is hard to do when you don’t have much money coming in so I understand your dilemma! What’s your credit worthiness like? If you have a clean credit history then I cant see any probs in at least applying. You wont get a high limit on a credit card though. BUT…if you start off small and pay off in full each month then the card provider may well increase your limit gradually, regardless of your income.

hi Evelyn, £500 does set the date, but you need to pay in full 56 days before the surgery (I think) I’m not sure if you’ll be able to get a credit card without a job? and yes, the deposit comes off the final amount! if you can go for sugery any time at short notice, you will be better off saving up and having credit (if you can) in place, and then booking last minute to get a discount for taking a cancellation slot they’ll struggle to fill….you could save 250-£500 doing this! good luck, I’m sure you’ll do it xx
