Am I right to think that all it is is scar tissue forming around the implant because your body is rejecting it? I know you can’t predict who’s body will reject/accept the implants but me and my mam were watching embarrassing bodies the other day and they took someone’s bum implants out and I was like I hope I dont get that and when I explained to her what it was her response was ‘well if your body produces scar tissue like me or your brother you probably will’ and then went on to explain that when she had her c-section her uterus and bladder fused together because of her body making too much scar tissue. And my brother fell over and dislocated his finger and he’s had about 7 operations on it now and they’ve had to give up on him, he can barely move his finger because his hand has built up so much scar tissue And no amounts of physio or cutting it open and back out again has helped him and now he’s getting kicked out of the army because its his trigger finger and now I can’t stop worrying about getting hard painful boobs and reops in the future, I’m having overs too which I know carries a higher risk of cc, but I don’t know what to think now, maybe they’re just unlucky or will I be the same :/ my op is 3 weeks today, sorry for my essay rant but I guess as it gets closer I’m going to he having doubts like this xxx

That girl on embarrassing bodies went to thailaland to get surgery also it was a cheap implant.

Yeahh I know that I wasn’t comparing myself with her that was just a bit of my story haha people still get it with expensive implants and surgery done in the UK its just one of the risks I’m just worried in case I’m a higher risk to it than others xxx

It does happen , but the percentile rate is quite low;) I wouldn’t worry about CC ;) just go for it babes ;)

I’m actually from America and I came here to London specifically to MYA the CC rate is much higher there than it is here, the surgeons are fab here. I have nothing to worry

Hey Sophie, capsular contracture is the most common complication of BA and it can happen anytime in the lifetime of the implant but it’s still only 10% (or less depending on where you read) who develop it. I don’t think they know exactly what causes it to happen and it’s not really possible to predict how your own body will react. Even if you’ve had scar tissue elsewhere on your body in the past it doesn’t necessarily mean the scar tissue around your breast implant will behave in the same way, and you can develop it in one side but not the other.

So personally I am doubtful that just cos your family have had problems with scar tissue it will predict that you will be more likely to. I did a lot of research on the complications before my BA and I haven’t seen anything like this mentioned.

Things that seem to be linked to higher rates of CC are having them over the muscle like you say, smooth implants rather than textured, having bleeding or fluid around the implant, and infection. But then there are probably people who have none of these and still develop CC.

If you do have concerns I would suggest ringing your nurse/PC/surgeon to discuss it as they might be able to reassure you better so you’re not worrying as much. I don’t think it will be a problem for them doing the op if that’s what you mean, as long as you’re aware of the risks and are willing to accept the small chance that they could happen for the bigger chance that they will not.

    xx
