Hi girls, do you need blood tests before your op? I am booked in for surgery on the 26th of May I haven’t met with the nurse yet but just wondering what happens next. I am literally terrified of needles any advice on this? Xx

I had them, but that’s because i was anaemic at the time so they needed to check my iron levels. The nurse told me that you only need a blood test if there’s something that needs checking, rather than them being routine. Hope that helps xx

Hi Lyndsey, I didn’t need them, I’m the same. Wasn’t scared for the op but for any blood tests and the cannula in my hand to go to sleep. Honestly the cannula was fine – just have to think it will all be over soon! I once had to have gas & air for a blood test so try not to stress!xx

it is all over so quickly, morning of my op I thought I was going to pull out based on the cannula but now I’m 11 days post op and it’s all a distant memory! Best thing I’ve done, you will be just fine & all worth it in the end!xx

I’ve had a cannula before and as scared as I am at the thought of one, they really aren’t bad at all. I spent the whole time worrying before my last op (not a BA, for my ear) and it was all for nothing lol xx

My clinic does blood tests on all patients… Just to be sure. She couldn’t get any veins after trying twice so went to the hospital & they done it there 🙂 I’m scared of needles as well but it just feels like a scratch & don’t look at the needle just close your eyes lol.
Then the Cannula on op day… I asked for it to be in my hand rather than arm etc & they done that & it was fine!?Xx
