Would agree with Olivia I bought two v pillows they were 9.99 each or two for 15.00 from Argos. Had my surgery yesterday and so glad I bought two, well worth it!! I didn’t buy button up PJs but I did take a zip up too with me however I managed to get a slouchy beat top on. Absolutely need your post op bra, maybe also but some ice packs, I haven’t but was meant to however the staff nurse said I didn’t have much swelling but just in case you do – those are cheap on amazon. Xx

Don’t forget slip on slippers to walk to theatre.
I brought a water bottle with a straw that has been with me ever since my surgery, u don’t have to lift it up to drink and if u knock it over it won’t spill. Xx

You will literally take so much stuff with you to the hospital that you don’t need at all! I felt like I took the whole of Tesco and it was so unnecessary. I’d say take your Mya info with you (although you don’t even need that but just incase), your Macom or band if you need one, any medication you’re on and a phone charger.. I took magazines and sweets and all sorts and never even looked at them!
A drink for the ride home might be good! I would recommend a zip up hoody and trainers to come home in as there’s no way I was going to be lifting my arms and I had to keep the pressure socks on so couldn’t whack on some flip flops! If you’re anything like me as well try not to wee before your admission as I was so dehydrated from being nil by mouth I struggled to wee for the pregnancy test!
Make sure you have your ice packs ready and your v shape pillow for when you get home. I ended up ordering reusable gel ice packs but they do take a while to cool down so I’ll be getting ice as well! These were 4 for £15 so thought I would give it a go as it may be easier than ice but really it isn’t that much pain wiser the time they take to cool down! The v shape pillow does work as well, I paid about £6 on eBay, it’s definitely essential to sleeping upright and you can’t complain for the price!
Button up pjs are a good idea as well because like I said you won’t be wanting to lift your arms at all.. it’s a struggle getting my second arm into my pjs so I couldn’t imagine lifting them! I also got quite a few zip up hoodies from primary because there so cheap at the moment!
You’ll want more than 1 bra aswell, I didn’t think I would be wearing them straight away as I have strapping but here I am – girls on here with strapping didn’t all need one but take it to the hospital just incase! I have to change mine daily so I have 3, 1 Macom and 2 of the Mya ones but I’ve heard you can get great ones from m & s so I will be going to out to have a look when I feel up to it!
Also have ibruprofen waiting at home, I’ve been given codydramol to take every 4 hours but if the pain gets bad I’ll take the ibruprofen in between!
I also bought myself orange juice and cranberry juice because in my head I seem to think it might help my healing haha! I’ve totally just made this up! I’ve got a couple of magazines aswell and my iPad incase I get bored of netflix!
That’s all I can really think of! What I would say is don’t go mad because although it’s exciting getting your bits together you don’t need half of it haha!

Any questions just let me know Hun! Good luck with the op, you’ll be fine xxxx

    Hi lovely,

make sure you’ve got some straws ready at home! I found it really hard to drink from cups and glasses normally so straws were a god send lol!

I stayed at the hospital overnight at the MYA Fitzroy and actually didn’t need much at all, I took things like my pj’s and all sorts but I stayed in my hospital gown the whole time and they provide you with a robe and slip on slippers. They also provide you with ice, straws, pain relief etc after your surgery. You have your tv too so don’t really need anything else in terms of entertainment.

The only things I really used at the hospital and for the journey home were :
-Hair ties with no metal in to tie your hair up before surgery
    -Phone
    -Phone charger
-Throat tablets for sore throat after anesthetic
-You may want some face wipes, I took some but didn’t actually use them
-Sports/macom bra to travel home in
-Zip up hoodie for going home
-Tracksuit bottoms (easy to put on things) for going home
-A few ice packs for the journey home
-Neck travel pillow for the journey home
-A pillow to put in front of me for the journey home so the seat belt didn’t annoy me
-Perhaps a drink and some sweets to suck on the journey home if you have far to travel (helped me a little with sickness as I had hours to travel home)

When I got home I also had:
    -V-pillow for bed
    -Travel neck pillow for bed
    -Straws
    -Protein shakes/bars to help recovery
    -Lots of ice packs
-Some kind of laxative like senekot or dulcolax (all of the medication and the anesthetic makes you very constipated and bloated you may not go to the loo for a long time so these help a little!)
-Arnica tablets (it’s not mandatory but I had quite a bit of bruising so I have been taking it and think it’s helped a little)
    -Button up pj’s
-Lots of dvd’s, netflix etc to keep you occupied when your’e in bed resting!
-Someone to help you with food, flushing the loo, brushing your teeth, washing your hair etc.

I think that’s pretty much everything!
I hope that helps lovely, good luck with your surgery, if you’re having your surgery at the MYA Fitzroy London the hospital is really nice and the nurses/staff are amazing and so helpful, you get a buzzer and any time you need them they come straight away to help!
If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Omg yes @eeviefox straws and laxatives are a must! I’m day 2 and can lift my drinks now but at first I couldn’t and omg the bloating is so bad for me xx

@caseymurrell ye it definitely gets easier to lift drinks but the straws were so helpful, I even used them for a few days so I wouldn’t strain myself too much.
The bloating is horrible, I am coming up to two weeks post op now and I am only just starting to notice it disappearing! The anesthetic and the strong pain relief are known to cause bloating, when I finished the strong meds and went onto paracetamol I started noticing a difference in bloating! xx

@eeviefox I’ve had to stop my codydramol all together because the bloating is so bad… did you get really bad stomach cramps aswell like just under your rib cage? It feels like really strong period pains but high up and it’s killing me! Hurting more than the boob pain!xx

@caseymurrell I had some quite bad indigestion pains central between my ribs which would have been the antibiotics and strong pain meds… I tend to get indigestion a lot anyway when I take pain relief or antibiotics. Perhaps that’s what you’re feeling also? It can be a really intense pain like almost really really bad trapped wind pain but high up and also like an intense “hunger pain” sometimes.

I also have a really bruised feeling along my ribs where my bra line is, I can’t actually see any bruising but it must be internal xx

@eeviefox omg that is exactly the feeling!! What can I do to get rid of it??? It’s horrific xx

@caseymurrell once you finish your antibiotics it should settle, I always get really bad indigestion. I do get indigestion and reflux a lot anyway but when I’m on antibiotics it gets really bad. After finishing them you should feel better. I am not sure if you’re allowed to take things like gaviscon as that’s what I usually take but I know after surgery you’re not allowed to take certain things. The natural things I take for it are ginger, ginger tea is really good otherwise some ginger biscuits may help a little. Chamomile is also good so some chamomile tea may help xx

@eeviefox thank you! I’ll give the ginger a go! My stomach is gurgling so much it’s horrible and it’s absolute agony when I eat!xx

@caseymurrell make sure you eat even just a little bit to line your stomach before taking your antibiotics and pain meds, otherwise it can make things worse x
