Dont know how to tell my family :(

I will be 21 in April, im a student at northampton uni and have a part time job. Im currently saving every penny i get to have BA surgery hopefully by the end of this year. The problem is, i dont know how to tell my family . I dont talk to them about personal stuff EVER and my dad and sister also like to take the mickey out of my small chest size and call people with fake boobs ‘silicone tits’. I think if i told them i was saving for the surgery they would laugh at me, argue with me not to do it and worst of all go on at me about how i shouldnt be paying out that money for what they would see as something ‘stupid’ when im a ‘poor student’.

Not sure if all that makes sense and sorry for the speech, but i dont know how to go about telling them. Anyone else have this problem?

p.s. my friends and boyfriend are all totally behind me.

Hi honey, the only thing i can contribute to that is, well, my sister always used to take the mickey out of me for being flat chested. But once i told her that i was going for a BA she was a) shocked and didnt realise how much it affected me, but b) totally supportive and then just moved on to taking the mickey out of something else instead!! lol!! Sisters for ya!! Im sure if you have a serious talk with them, then they will listen and take it all in. They might not totally agree with you, but some people find it hard to understand when they havent been through it themselves. I really dont see my boobs as being “fake”, i didnt go upto a ridiculous size, but just enough for me to feel curvaceous!! Dont be afraid, your old enough and your working for it! Good luck x

or dont tell them, make it a suprise lol. theres afew people who are close to me who were completley against the idea of me getting a BA.. i had my op on tuesday without saying a thing, they will find out pretty soon but theres not alot they can say or do now, gotta do what makes you happy! xxx

Maybe your family will feel differently because it’s you rather than someone they don’t know? I was lucky that my parents paid and supported me but at the end of the day it’s your body and your choice…no one should be able to take that away from you purely based on their opinions. I think people automatically think of extreme, porn star boobs when they think of BA’s but 90% of the time that’s not the case…Good luck, do whatever makes you happy xxxx
