Hi ladies! Has anyone had drains? The thought of them really freaks me out, enough to not want to go ahead! Can you request not to have them or is it the surgeons decision? I’ve heard you have an increased risk of infection with them. Having my BA in July so a long way away, find myself thinking about this a lot and even had a dream last night I woke up after op and had drains… eurgh!
Any advice would be appreciated!
xx
I’ve had a ba with drains and without, I honestly wouldn’t worry about them hun, when there pulled out its over in a flash! Xx
Have u asked if your surgeon defo uses them? Mine doesnt use them and i wouldnt of needed them even if they did use them! Im sure its just for swelling? I may be wrong but i dont think there actually necessary unless u personally need them x
I had drains and was so scared like you! I asked my surgeon if she could get away without using them would she but she said she would not risk my safety! I woke up with drains and felt sick and was so worried about them coming out! I even asked the doctor if I could have morphine before they came out lol!! I didnt get the morphine but when the time. And to have them removed I didn’t feel any pain at all! It was just a weird feeling of something moving inside and that was it! In fact it hurt more the nurse peeling the bit of tape off to get to the drain!! Really it’s nothing to worry about and once they are out you will be so relieved and wonder what you was so worried about!! X
Did your surgeon say they would definitely use them as standard? I think it’s often particular surgeons’ preference whether they use them or maybe if it looks like you’ll have issues with needing to drain fluid out. Mine said he didn’t use drains so I never had any, and I didn’t have any oozing on my dressings so I didn’t need them anyway. I’ve had drains elsewhere for a non-cosmetic op I had years ago and I don’t remember it being painful getting them removed and had no problems from it so if you do have them I’m sure you’ll be fine. Just try to trust your surgeon’s judgement. x
Even if the worst happens and u need them, all it feels like is a worm wiggling behind your boob when its pulled out, not painfull in the slightest, and over in a second, well worth a nice new pair of boobies
. Try not to let it stop u going ahead hun xx

My surgeon only puts drains in if its required (such as if you bleed lots). I think theres much less change of drains with others compared with unders too, thats why they don’t mind you having a day case with overs.
What about with an uplift do they usually use drains then? Also do they have to take bloods at pre op with nurse with an uplift? Xx
I got bloods taken just for a BA – think the surgeon was worried about anemia. They only take a little and I’m sure its less scary than the canula they put in for surgery.
Not sure about uplifts to be honest, sorry
I had drains with my first BA huni, I was totally dreading them especially the thought of removing them! I can tell you though, they honestly do not hurt in the slightest! I wish the surgeon that I’m having on the 18th uses them but unfortunately he doesn’t. You’ll be fine hun xx
I had drains with both my ba’s and it’s jus a weird feeling wen they r being pulled out !!!! I would recommend drains everytime and there is less risk of infection Hun because it gets all the excess fluid out and the swelling will go down quicker. If u dont have drains Ur body has to get all that excess fluid out itself!!!! So no need to worry Hun and u will b thankful u had them I promise. Xx
Lindsey, they take bloods routinely with an uplift cos its more likely you will bleed bit more, i had drains in to and was told more than likely they usually always use drains with uplift xx
I didn’t think that my surgeon used drains until my day of surgery when my boobie buddy said she was scared of them. I’d completely overlooked having drains as didn’t think I’d have them so knew nothing about them & I was soo scared! I’m also such a wimp & the next morning when they came to take my cannula & drains out I was terrified! Felt them take the cannula out but it didn’t hurt, was just a weird feeling. Then when she went to take drains out she explained that they aren’t in very far so it wouldn’t hurt & sure enough she took the first one out & I asked was she finished, honestly peeling the sticky plaster off over the top of it hurt the most. Then when she went to take the next one out she couldn’t because it was in too deep so she wanted another nurse to come & look at it, that realllyy scared me but even when they took that out I barely felt a thing & it didn’t hurt at all. Honestly don’t be scared of drains, it’s a bit weird walking around carrying two bags of blood around but it’s better out than in!! xxx

Thanks for all your replies girls really made me feel better about it! I guess it’s just something that you have to deal with to have a new pair of boobies!! I think it was more of what you can see in the drains that freaks me out and for some reason I had it in my head that u go home with them still in haha! seeing my surgeon next week so might give it a shot and ask him to avoid drains, if not guess its not so bad. Will def be going ahead
thank you! Xx
