driving after the op?

hi girls i was just wondering if anyone could give me a rough guess when i’d be able to start driving again after my op. obviously i understand everyone is different and recovery may vary but i was just interested as i may be having to look after myself a week or so afterwards. xxxxx

I read that you weren’t insured to drive for 7 days after ga so I’d check with your insurance company, I think I drove around 8 days post op but didn’t try before then as didn’t need to go anywhere, I just lazed about in the house for my first week, it was bliss! xx

thank you guys, i had a feeling it was going to be months, was thinking maybe the seatbelt would have some sort of effect and make things uncomfortable thanks for the replies xxxxx

The seatbelt never bothered me, it was the changing gear (well pushing down into reverse, past sixth) that bothered the longest, I couldn’t change in my automatic for two weeks (as in put it into drive) as I was suffering with my unders. The whole reversing was a pain, as you tend to move more during it.

Everyone is different, and unders tend to effect more then overs. Only your body will tell you when your ready, but deffo wait seven days for insurance reasons xx

I drove for the first time at 7 days PO and it was still quite uncomfortable. But I have no servo steering.

I was told a week. I think its also more to do with the airbag factor, so you may feel ok to drive but obviously if you were in a crash and airbag – would be very painful!

Oooops i drove at 3 days lol I had overs and I have an automatic car so was easier for me. It was uncomfortable until about day 10 though x

I was fine to drive at 4/5days post op. I was told I could as soon as I felt comfortable. I wanted to test the waters before I drove up to Manchester. I didn’t know about the insurance thing til after. Ooops. I’d ring them to see what they say. X

They said one week to me hun. I took 3 weeks though, like joanna above I just felt too stiff, especially changing gears etc. I had unders xx
