I headed upto Doncaster the day before my operation with my husband and son in preperation for my early admission of 7am the next day.
All eager I got up at half five and took a long shower washing my hair 3 times because I knew it would be the last time in like a week or something. Unfortunately, my son was fast asleep and didn’t have the heart to wake him, so we thought it was best that I took a cab by myself. Thankfully I was staying locally and the cab drive was less than 5 minutes, so I didn’t have much time to realise that I was doing this all on my own! I got to Parkhill and was greeted by a really friendly receptionist who took my details and asked me to take a seat. Shortly after another lady called my name and took me up in the lift to the wards and showed me into my room. A nurse came in after her and took my blood pressure and checked through a load of other details, she then left me to put on my gown, paper knickers and sexy white knee high stockings. By the time all this was done it was 8am and was then left with the TV for company. At 9:15 the aneasthetist came in and explained what would happen. Mr Kazzazi followed about 20 minutes after and checked my implant size and whether I was having overs or unders. I had decided to have 525 overs which he then proceeded to draw big circles on my boobs and wrote in huge writing 525 overs (least I knew no mistakes would be made!) at 10:15am another nurse came in and said “hi I’m here to take you up for surgery” (gulp!) panicking slightly that I had no reassuring hugs before I left my room and no one to wait for me I felt really lonely going upto surgery. On the plus side I was occupied by the TV all morning and hadn’t really give it a second thought that I was in for an operation, so being on your own isn’t such a bad thing! I lay down in the pre op room where the aneasthetist tried to put the canula into my left hand and failed (ouch!) he had to remove that one and said I’ll try the other hand (oh goody I thought more pain!) this time I felt nothing and it went in without a hitch. It was time for me to be knocked out at 10:20am he said I should start to feel sleepy and then I passed out.
I came round to a nurse talking to me, I was freezing cold and shaking uncontrollably so they administered some pethidine to calm me down, which put me into a lovely sleep. I was pretty much out of it for a few hours afterwards but was in no pain what so ever. My chest felt tight, but other than that I was fine.
My hubby called into see me with my son at 4:30 for an hour. He had already been to Ann Summers and bought me some very sexy lingerie. Bless him bet he thought I’d be upto trying it on and swinging from the lights that night! He quickly realised when he saw me that it wasn’t going to happen and give me a big kiss and left me to sleep for a while longer as my son was starting to get cranky.
Mr Kazzazi finally checked on me at 7:30 to make sure my nipples were the right colour etc and said that I could have my drains removed and go home within the next couple of hours. My drains were removed which didn’t hurt in the slightest and went and checked in the mirror on my new chest. Although covered in white tape with just my nipples poking out I can already see that they are going to look fab. I keep looking at them to make sure no one has taken them back, lol! I’ve already measured myself and to my surprise I think I’ve lost a little weight lately because I’m measuring a 34E. So once the swelling has gone then I should be a DD that Mr Kazzazi promised.
I had a full nights sleep last night and woke up at 7am, had my brekkie and then back to the hospital for my final check up before going home. Everything was fine so back home we headed. The car journey was not the best though after an hour and a half in the car I was starting to feel every bump and bend so was happy to get back and put myself in bed again. I’ve rested up this afternoon, had no painkillers since lunchtime and apart from feeling a bit stiff I feel fine.
It was a great experience and I cannot praise the hospital and staff highly enough. They made me feel totally at ease and in good hands. Just shows if you pay what good medical care you can receive.
