Hi girls, I’m completely new here, and have loads of questions!
I’m a bit of an exercise-addict and I really wanted to know how soon realistically I can expect to be able to exercise after the procedure…kind of aerobics/kick boxing etc. Also, has anyone who has had their BA found that they put on weight because they weren’t able to exercise for ages after? Sorry to sound so shallow!

Hi,
I had my op 3weeks ago & I was worried not that I’d put weight on but that I’d be really restless & agitated. I teach intense dance classes & I also do a lot of dancing myself so I had to consider this when I booked in. I found I put weight on in the first week or so because I was really bloated, apparently anaesthetic & pain killers can bung you up. But I was desperate to have the op done. I just booked over Xmas time when classes were quiet & I could afford a bit of time off. It’s not shallow at all it’s a good thing you like to keep fit & healthy & when I asked the surgeon the same thing he said because I am active & quote fit,my recovery time would be a lot shorter. I’m keeping rested for the 6weeks like they advise because I just think its a lot of money & pain to go through to ruin it my pulling something or damaging yourself. 6 weeks isn’t that long hun,I’m 3 weeks 2 days & it’s flew by. I lost my appetite after surgery so didn’t eat much, just eat fruit & stay as healthy as possible but I think if you really want it doing it’ll be worth it in the end. Xxx
I am 16 days post op and just done some morning sit-ups! I have not really put weight on whilst recovering!xx

Hi, I was told to wait 6 weeks but I was beside myself by 3.5 weeks. I didn’t want to lose all my fitness so I went back just using the cross trainer for 40 mins on a fat burning programme with out the arm movements. Im now 10 weeks po and I’m fine, I’m even able to do light weights (def no press ups!) I got the most amazing sports bra from m&s and I’m back running now like it had never happened.
So my advice is just work ur lower body and listen to ur body! You’ll will know what is too much. Anything other than sitting around eating is a bonus so maybe even walking huni x
Hi Hun, I’m 3 weeks today, and like KD2590 said you get bloated in the first week due to all the tablets and can make you feel sluggish, like you I try and keep active i normally go to at least 3/4 classes a week. As long as you eat well with fruit and veg ect you should avoid putting on weight. I’ve probably put on bout 4pounds as it’s been Xmas and I’ve eaten a lot more than I normally would but I’m back at work, back eating normally and moving around so I’m hoping I won’t gain any more lol. I can’t imagin that you would gain a lot of weight hun, just be sensible with what your eating ect.
I’m tempted to going bk to the gym next week at 4 wk’s not doing classes just gently leg exercise and only doing half hr just to keep me active.
Xx
Hi ya, it was a worry for me when I had mine done, I recovered pretty quick and by 4 weeks post-op I was back at gym just not doing upperbody work. My surgeon said at my 6 week check that I can live normally again so I now include upperbody in my workout. I’m nearly 9 weeks post-op. I didn’t put weight on like I worried abt so I’m sure you will b ok. Just don’t push yourself too early and listen to ur body.
Hi ladies
I understand its frustrating, particularly after Christmas! But please consult your nurse if you are thinking about exercising before the six week guideline.
They will be happy to advise you and ensure you’re fully healed to resume exercising safely.
Any questions please send me a message.
Thanks
