    Hi all,

MYA Moderator here and I am most definitely female. At MYA we only have one moderator to ensure continuity as opinion can be very subjective. I am part of a small marketing team and our team leader and technical support is male and one of a minority of males within a business that is dominated by females. Our main aim is to help people throughout their MYA journey but also to ensure that the spirit of the forum is maintained. We do not have any MYA staff who pose as patients, but sometimes MYA staff who have had a procedure do go on the forum to offer support and to receive support. What we don’t do is have members of staff fabricating situations for MYA’s gain. Our greatest supporters are our patients who in the main have had an amazing experience with us. You will know from your contact with them whether or not they are genuine. Our business could not have grown without us offering a genuine quality service and we are glad that this naturally shines through on our forum.

We don’t always get things right and that was one of the main reasons for us launching the forum so that we can get real patient feedback. For those regular users of the website it will be obvious that our site flows naturally with the aim of learning from any mistakes and constantly aiming to improve MYA.

We welcome any thoughts and feedback about our forum and are looking to launch a focus group. In the coming weeks we will ask people to nominate themselves to be part of this process. We would like to think that those who participate will get a true understanding of how patient focussed we are.

Thank you once again for using our forum,

    Best wishes,

    MYA Mod

Yes mod I would like to know the same. I don’t care much for this drama the forum has been great for me and I have no issues at all with MYA or my surgeon. I would like to see the forum to return to how it was as I feel most sorry for the girls who have their surgery looming and all this is far from reassuring and probably adding to their nerves which isn’t fair as many of us have had brilliant experiences, but I am concerned as to who my pictures are visible to your end, and how private one to one messages are from the view that is it just me and the other patient who can see them, or can you and therefore the company see them too? Thanks xx

The only people who can access your pictures are your friends,if you are not sure who is male or female don’t add them ladies,if you are in doubt that some of the people you have added are male deleted them it solves the issue.

I agree with sarahlouise13’s post and liked the suggestions. Let’s all get the forum back to how it was, I have only been on the forum for about 5 months and I can see the difference between now and then. Finges crossed it all gets sorted :-)

If private messages are being presented at consultations then that’s definitely an invasion of privacy….that’s bang out of order if you ask me!

I have found MYA fab so far in my experience, surgery is in 2 weeks with Dr G in Highgate. If any problems are to arise it may be due to happen around my op date!

There was a problem involving being down slightly incorrectly in the records for my procedure, though this was due to a problem in communication between departments within MYA, and they were very apologetic.

My PC has been fab so far, sometimes a little hard to get hold of – but I’m not very easy to get hold of myself – so I cannot complain there!

I went for my pre op with an amazingly lovely and warm hearted nurse who I really enjoyed chatting to and felt very comfortable!

Also on my way out, had a big long chat with my PC about my surgery and after surgery and it was very lovely!

Even the people behind the phones on the 0800 line have always been fab and helpful!

The forum has never caused a problem to me, I haven’t experienced anything bad myself – though I am not really familiar with anybody on here and don’t really chat and don’t think I get the most out of it as others do…

That’s my praise for the company.

Though I hear some terrible things about the forum and about PC’s and surgeons and the way everything is handled – and it is very sad.

Thanks MYA for being kind to me, I hope it stays this way to the end of my journey! :)

Hi Melissa I think you’ve made some valid points, especially your question on your other thread which has remained unanswered! That’s why I bumped it up!

The only people who can sort this sad excuse of a forum out are MYA! I think the fact that they are now asking members how to get it back to how it used to be speaks volumes…..they don’t know what to do!

They have been so quick to close/delete recent threads without any explanation….of course people are going to speculate and wonder what the hell is going on! Come on MYA, what did you expect???? It’s laughable really!

Thanx flossy hun I’m jus gettin really annoyed that mod has just started a new thread but hasn’t replied to me in the las well nerly 3 hours its frustrating all I want is an answer I will just delete my account if I dnt get answerd if I cnt be promised that I have my privacy xxx

That thread mentions breach of patient confidentiality…surely when a forum member is presented with a printout of her posts on the forum whilst attending a surgeon consultation, that constitutes ‘breach of patient confidentiality’

Maybe it’s just me being thick!

Clearly a lot of you on here have been upset by the forum or by the Mya Mod…and there are clearly some questions that seriously need to be answered by the MOD before this forum can get back to normal like it was before.

I really hope that the posts aren’t getting put into our files because i’d be quite embarrassed if my PC or surgeon etc saw what I ask/write about!

I just feel that this forum isn’t doing what it is designed and purposed to do.

Saying that, I Don’t really feel that there are many people on here who would be interested in helping me if I have a problem, as I’m not familiar with anyone on here, I’m what you’d call ‘new’. Is that right?

Maybe because I’m not having a BA at this moment in time and that is what the majority of ladies are having, I could get shrugged off by people?

By the way, the suggestion about having our stats on our profile sounds fab because ladies could easily find a match on here and chat/add friends with the same stats!

(Sorry reply is completely all over the place and ranting about random things!)

I agree with a lot of the suggestions by @sarahlouise13. It would be good if there were notifcations for conversations we have contributed to and new posts are added, if we could follow certain conversations to easily access them later, and there was a record of our posting history. As others have mentioned it often takes ages to send a post and for new posts to show, and often if I’m on my phone I get a timed out message even though the post eventually shows up, but it sometimes it results in multiple posting.

Other than that while I know this is a forum run by MYA, it would be a shame if it wasn’t open to people who have used other companies and they were made to feel unwelcome cos although other forums are available, they may not attract as many posters and they move at a much slower pace which may be why many other people use this site in general.

@JAF I think most girls would help anyone if they could regardless of how often they posted or if their name was known… I know I would if I could anyway!

I was confronted with printouts of my posts from my file at my checkup, they were the public posts and not private messages, but all the same someone went to the trouble of searching my user name and matching it to my patient files. Whilst I believe that the posts were about post op issues I was having (as my nurse was passed my details to ring me about these posts), I was mortified that my surgeon had seen sight of them. It’s one of the reasons I no longer have a profile (although if this posts then my account hasn’t been fully deleted as requested!). It’d be great to see the forum return to its old self, I would suggest MYA take a look at the boob job support forum, a lot of the ideas suggested have been applied there and it works really well.

MYA MOD, thank you for opening this up for discussion and inviting patient feedback on the forum. That’s a great way to encourage confidence in your services :)

    -Moderation functions

You currently have one moderator to look after the entire forum, and it is not manned at weekends. Having been here for over a year now I know this is not enough. You need at least one more moderator, and the forum needs to be overseen at weekends and evenings which is when a lot of spam posts and negativity arise. Not only does this give a bad impression of the forum, but it makes long time users less willing to offer their help and share with others in the future when they log in to see spam, bullying, complaining, and non-mya/ non surgery related posts.

    -User functions

I like the idea suggested above about having a like button for posts, that really encourages users to share and participate. There should also be an auto blanking of posts if more than 3 users flag it if that is possible? this would cut down on spam and foul language.

    -The appearence of the forum

On other breast surgery forums, users can have a picture in their signature, which may also include their stats i.e. 380cc CUI unders, May 2011, 32b – 32ff. Or a counter to show the days left till surgery. And the forum itself is a little bland looking, perhaps brighter, warmer colours would be more appropriate for posts and profile pages?

    -Information made easier

Stickies at the top of the forum are extremely useful. However these could definitely do with being updated regularly. Perhaps there could be a news section added to the log in page so that users can immediately see anything new that is happening.. this could include announcements about upcoming surgeon online chats, MYA news, the most recent forum posts/ thread updates etc.

    -Other Suggestions

Anonymity when going through the complaints procedure – A recent incident has confirmed for many of us that MYA, while not directly naming names, is not above leaking very sensitive information about an individual which could result in them receiving unwarranted attention, and possibly put them in a very vulnerable position when their identity is exposed. This is extremely concerning. The MYA privacy policy is vague at best – it needs a thorough update and to be made completely transparent, it also needs to be posted clearly at the top of the forum as a sticky. There will always be clauses in agreements, but MYA patients need to be made aware of EXACTLY how private their information is both while under your care, and following, for however long in the future.

Complaints procedure – needs to be clear and full, including head office address to write to if necessary, telephone contact number, and escalating steps to take in the case of an issue arising.

Updated forum guidelines – The guidelines need to state exactly what is and is not welcome on the forum. If not talking about other companies is what MYA prefer, then that needs to be stated loud and clear and reinforced. As I’m sure a lot of the negativity toward the running of the forum lately has to do with how vague the guidelines are, and that it seems like it is one rule for one and one for another.

Tech issues – In all honesty I have never used a forum before that is as slow as MYA’s in posting and replying to topics. Sometimes it can take up to 50 seconds for a response from the server! MYA are really letting themselves down on this issue. I know I personally don’t post very much at all now because of this issue, it’s simply too time consuming to wait while my responses are posted. This has been going on for over 7 months with only the briefest of improvements about 5 months ago, and then straight back to slowness. I’m not sure why this can’t be cleared up?

Overall I feel the forum is a lifeline for not just MYA patients, but anyone interested in surgery or seeking information about surgery related information. It has certainly helped me both pre and post op, in the 14 months I’ve been here. I sincerely hope that the feedback here can help MYA improve the forum, both for their benefit and ours.

Hey, I haven’t read through all the comments, but will.

All I wanted to contribute to this is that this site, MYA isn’t just for BA, it’s for EVERYTHING.

The sexual orientation of the mod’s isn’t available to us (nor should it be) and it wouldn’t matter. Female mod’s could be gay, the male mod could be too. The point is that they’ll have access to BA pictures, rhino pictures, male procedure pictures etc.

    There’s no problem with that.

You don’t complain about surgeons being male or doctors or anyone? they’re professionals (even if people claim otherwise, they are at least expected to be professionals).

Sorry if this has already been said.

    Menu

I sound like I’m against everyone, when I’m really not. I’m just trying to see it from both points of view and finding all the loopholes.

If our profiles from here are brought up at consultations or whatever, it wouldn’t be a “breach of patient confidentiality”, that’d be more a surgeon discussing things unrelated to the procedure with those not involved e.g. telling his wife that a patient today had a funny nipple or talking to a nurse who wasn’t involved in the procedure about the procedure.

It’s also not a problem with privacy, technically anyone can have access to our public posts on here. ANYONE could sign up and then see our profiles and posts but not pictures or anything we’ve kept private.

Although it doesn’t seem professional or fair at all, I don’t think MYA have technically done anything wrong. But I’m no lawyer, I don’t know all this jargon and don’t know all the laws or regulations, so they may have breached something but it’s not privacy or confidentiality.
