Hi babe, I was born with a narrowing of my heart valve which I still have now. I was sent for extra echos and ECG before I was allowed m op. Once my surgeon and aneathatist were happy with my results then I was told I could go ahead, however be aware if you do need these you will have to pay for them privately at a private hospital as MYA don’t have the facility.

They will only ask if you have put it on your questionnaire at the beginning, I was contacted and told I needed all my tests even before I got to my pre op!
    Hope this helps xxx

You should probably mention it before you get to the surgery date as the last thing you want is it to be cancelled the day of surgery. Don’t know how far on you are with things but you normally fill a form out which will ask about any health conditions. They will probably want you to get an ecg which is just a electrical tracing of your heart before you get the go ahead. You can get this from your gp. Just make an appt ASAP and tell them about these palpitations and they will probably do an ecg to check things anyways xx

I had a heart condition when I was younger which meant I had an extra valve so I got palpitations a lot, I had 2 surgeries and was discharged. They asked me loads of questions about it but didn’t request anything further. On the day of my op the anaesthetist asked me loads and I was panicking a bit they’d cancel my op but it was all ok. I’d definitely mention it and make sure there ok about it before your op day to save you all that stress. The nurse can organise an ECG at your pre op, she decided I didn’t need one xx

I have just signed a GP consent form which MYA have sent to my GP so now i think i am just waiting for confirmation from my doctor for my go ahead (i signed this 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing since so assuming everything is fine)
