Help! Alcohol pre op!

Hi everyone, how long before your op did you all stop alcohol consumption? I am due to have my op on sat 3rd, I had a large glass of sangria last night and all my food was cooked in wine too! I’m probably panicking but just read my notes and they advise to not drink two weeks pre op! Damn it! I’ve read some bad things this morn on alcohol and surgery. I’ve had to stop taking all my supplements etc too. What should I do? Does this mean it may be postponed? thanks in advance .x

DON’T WORRY!!! You won’t be postponed – it was only one glass and alcohol in food is largely evaporated off. The op is only about 45mins-1hour so you will be under anaesthetic only a short time and it was only one glass. If you had an all night bender, then maybe worry a little. What I’d do if I was you is detox a bit today – lots of water and fruit. And maybe if you want mention it to patient co-ordinator but they will prob just put your mind at rest.

I have had surgery before and had a meal the night before – my nurse said I could have one small glass of wine if I wanted and this was the night before. So don’t worry

hun, you will be fine, look at the drunk idiots that get hurt on nights out, then need surgery asap!

they advise no alcohol as it thins your blood, which is why its a two week mark. i had a few glasses of a night in the two week period, and the weekend after i was fairly drunk (off nothing, which is unlike me!), honestly, dont worry. i know we all want to do it by the book, but the book is VERY STRICT, where as we arent xx

Ahhh girls thank you SO much for your replies, really sweet of you to get back to me. I’ve been drinking water all day, had berrocas and fruit . Oh god got in a real panic about that I’ve read some bad stuff on how it can hinder recovery etc. Thank you for putting my mind at ease. Xxxxx

My info only said 48 hours! I drank a bottle and a half of wine 3 days before my surgery oooops! x

My nurse told me 48hrs, so you will be fine x
