Hey girls, Just wondering in the nurse consultation stage did everyone have MRSA swabs? and was anyone found to be positive for MRSA? I work in a hospital… and one of the swabs has came back with MRSA, so i have now been told a week before my surgery that it is going to be delayed, I am devestated, as have already been waiting 4 months! :(

Hey! I’m sorry hon, this is horrible just before ur op! I didn’t know they took swabs for mrsa. I do know that some people are just carriers and never have any symptoms! I guess they’re just being vigilant honey and will sort u out with a new date soon! Did they say what happens now?

I couldn’t believe it, its only 9 days before my op! I had four different swabs and it came back positive in my throat (recently had an infection when i had my wisdom teeth out – so think this must have been where it stemed from!) I was told i wouldnt need antibiotics, just a mouth wash and to go back 3 weeks before my op.

So i did and have just had the results, and it hasn’t gone! :( I was also told my surgery wouldn’t be delayed, but they have changed their minds. Reading the internet – seems i do need antibiotics to get rid of it. Don’t know when i am going to be able to have it done now, difficult to get time off with work etc ….. :(

Ahh perhaps it must only be people that work in a hospital that get screened, i have to wait until tuesday now to find out what the plan is x

I had a swab, but all clear. It was because I had been in hospital recently that I had one.

Hope you get some antibiotics roxy06 and get your op xx

Hey Roxy, I had my pre-op on saturday and as I work in an elderly care home the nurse told me that I have to be swabbed. Anyway she forgot to swab me by the end of the appointment, but sent me an email the next day advising I would need to go back to have the swabs done! I am reallllyyyyy hoping they come negative as I’ve begged my boss for the time off already and my ops on the 15th :(

The nurse told me you only have to have them if you work in a hospital, hospital environment or have recently been into hospital. I hope that your problem gets sorted and you can have your op on that date!!!x

Hi Jessicahh, not long till your op then :)… Hope your swabs have come back ok!! i’ve been told i cannot have my op for a minimum of 4 weeks & thats if the next swab is clear…so have a provisional date for 6 weeks. :( Have now decided to have a consultation with a different surgeon in the meantime – suppose everything happens for a reason! x
