Hi All, I’m planning on going to the Highgate Hospital and want to know what people thought of the level of care there. I took my friend 3 years ago and was not to impressed with the after care. Any feedback would be great. Also do you know if there is a hotel nearby for my husband to stay as he can’t stay with me. Thanks

Hiya I stayed overnight at Highgate on the 16th (2 nights ago) after my over the muscle BA. Having read good and bad comments on here, I can honestly say everyone was lovely except for one nurse who looked after me straight out of the operation until the night nurse took over. This particular nurse wasn’t very helpful, like when I was brought back up to my room I really had to pee and she said “so stand up” which I couldn’t as I was very woozy after waking up. Then she brought me a bedpan which I had no idea how to use or position myself as I have never used one before! She didn’t help at all. Some pee got on the sheets (sorry to be graphic) which she had to clean and she told me to get up and sit in the chair but didn’t help me up at all, it was a bit hard considering the operation just done.

Luckily everyone else was really lovely and helpful. Dr Adamo came and checked on me after I’d woken up and again in the morning which was reassuring. They come in regularly to take your blood pressue and check if you need painkillers or sleeping tablets. Although I took the overnight spot as that’s all that was left on the day I wanted, I must say it is more reassuring to stay over as you know if anything happens they will be there to help. The food is better than normal hospital food but a bit average. I was absolutely starving afterwards and the little dinner was not enough, I recommend packing some snacks! The only other available food there is tea, biscuits and toast. I was dying for cakes or chocolate haha. Good luck for your operation there is nothing to worry about you will be fine :)
