Sorry if this sounds melodramatic but I literally feel devastated. My op is booked for the 4th Jan and I’ve been suffering mixed emotions but mainly excitement tinged with nerves. However I’ve just been informed that I shouldn’t even be thinking of having a BA as I developed severe mastitis shortly after I gave birth last July which means I have a much higher chance of getting Capsular Contracture and if I do decide to have the BA and have another baby (which I do want in 2/3 years down the line) that I will likely get mastitis again and this will cause Capsular Contracture. So I’ve just spent the last 30mins googling links between the two and it seems she is right, I’m in tears I literally don’t see how I can do it now….:-(

Please can anyone offer any advice!!! x

You don’t sound melodramatic at all. It’s something you really want and now a spanner has been thrown in the works. I can’t really offer you much advice but I once read that there is some type of tablet that stops you producing breast milk. I’m not sure if it’s available here or if it even exists (sorry) I’ll try n find some info though. Big Hugs. X

    I found this.

Bromocriptine is also sometimes used to prevent or stop milk production for medical reasons following childbirth, miscarriage or abortion. Prolactin is the hormone that stimulates the production of breast milk, hence decreasing the production of prolactin with bromocriptine stops milk production.

I don’t know if that’s something you want to look into but I’m pretty sure I read about a girl who got pregnant soon after BA and took this or something similar.

Who told you you shouldn’t have BA for the reasons you gave above? X

Thanks so much for your help, I read about that as well and is definitely something that I’ll need to do. I just feel awful about all of this, I wanted to breast feed my second as it all went to horribly wrong with my first and if I have to take tablets and not even attempt it then I think the whole BA is just going to be such a selfish thing to do. So worried about the whole thing now.

Sorry if this sounds really personal but if I stimulate my nipples even now 17mths on I can still produce a bit of milk, so I’m wondering if I still have a bit of an infection that needs to be looked at?!? it’s all so confusing.

Mini – are you post op? do they give you antibiotics to start from day 1? x

Was it your surgeon that said a BA wouldn’t be a good idea? CC is covered in aftercare. 5 years I think.

Personally I’d go ahead. Once we’ve had kids we seem to push our dreams at the back of the queue. I say do something for yourself, enjoy them for a few years and when it comes to having another bambino go speak to your GP n see what options there are.

Plus, every single one of us has the risk of developing CC. We are all aware of this but choose to go ahead. No one knows who or when they’ll get it. You could wait til you’ve had another child and get CC anyway. Live for the moment!!

Not sure what to say about you still being able to produce milk. Have you seen your GP about that? X

Oh, yes you get antibiotics on the day of op. X

Hi Mini, no I haven’t seen my GP about this. My GP is really rubbish and I just assumed it was no big deal as I’m not in pain with it and its such a small amount. It was just a girl at work that told me not to even consider a BA, I didn’t mention the Mastitus to the Surgeon. I’m due to see my Surgeon again next Thurs and have my pre-op so was going to talk it through with him then. How did you find the antibiotics? did you have to take them for a week?

Thanks so much for your advice, really appreciate it. Hopefully someone will pop up who has had mastitis with a BA and was fine!!! please!!!! xx

Yeah, I’d speak to your surgeon. He/she will most probably have had patients who’ve experienced similar things to yourself.

Could it not be that this girl at work is a little jealous? It’s a bit harsh to just come out with you shouldn’t even be thinking about BA.

I’m not going to lie about the antibiotics.. I hated them n they hated me. Lol. I stopped taking them after 2/3 days. They made me sick and tired, I’d say the effects of them were way worse than the op itself!! I took the anti inflamitarys for about a week though and they bunged me up, I looked preggers!!

What size are you having? X

Certain implants reduce the chance of developing cc which may also be worth considering

I had mastitis, not real bad but it bloody hurt! I never got told this? Did ur boobs change much after u had your baby? And up until I had my ba I still had a bit of milk leaking every now n again xxx

Hi girls, sorry wasn’t online over the weekend.

Mini and princess76 – I’m having 275 soft touch overs, which are apparently slightly less likely to get rippling and CC but I’ve since heard that there is not much in it. I picked small implants as again the smaller they are the easier for your body to deal with but to be honest am now worried they may be too small so am going to re-discuss with my Surgeon again this Thurs when I go for my pre-op.

Amanda.s – My boobs almost went back to normal after the mastitis had dissapered and the milk dried up, my left boob seems a bit bigger than my right which I never noticed before pregnancy. How long did you wait to have your BA after givign birth? xx
