I'm in the boobie club! Holly Hotpants – My Story :)

10:45 – Arrived at highgate

11:00 – Shown to my room room. 315

11:20ish – A very miserable and unwelcoming nurse came in. Took my blood pressure. No need for pregnancy test as I have an implant and am half way through a period. Asked all the questions in the world!!

I asked her to clean the bed. My mum had noticed when we came into the room that there was blood on there (not belonging to me). When I asked her, she asked if I would like to move to a different room or just have it cleaned. (I had the biggest room they have so asked AGAIN for it to be cleaned) She seemed really unimpressed with this! She came back in about 5 mins later after weighing me, with my TED Stockings and a pad, and said it was easier for them to move me!! EASIER TO RE LOCATE A PATIENT THAN DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY AND CLEAN A HOSPITAL ROOM AS IT SHOULD BE?!?! I couldn’t believe it!!!

11:30 – Came down to my new room. 312. Saw Mr Fallahdar on the way down, he was going into theatre. The nurse came back shortly after asking “Is this room clean enough for you?” Sarcastic ***!

At the moment I am VERY UNIMPRESSED with the lack of care and hygiene practice in this hospital. Being a Nurse Auxilliary for the NHS, and ALWAYS adhering to the strictest of care and hygiene policies, whether it puts me out of my way or not – I would have expected private care to go above and beyond expectations. But at the moment I can honestly say I would have much preffered to be in an NHS hospital, where the nurses are friendly and make you comfortable and they would clean a bed if it had someone elses bodily fluids on it! I have seen theatre nurses walking around outside in their scrubs! I’ve been here an hour and I’m horrified!

11:55 – MOVED AGAIN!! Now in room 208. Got told there were cancellations so they had deciced to close one ward. So packed up again and off we went. Walked past quite a bit of broken and random equipment on the ward corridor. Including a bed with two matresses shoved on top of it! Nurse told me I had to get changed now. So I’m now sat in my gown, TED stockings and RIDICULOUSLY SMALL KNICKERS!! I mean HELLOO! They don’t call me Holly Hotpants for nothing! I’ve had to rip the bottoms of them to get my thighs in! (Not exagerating I literally had to break them!!)

12:20 – MR Fallahdar came to draw on me and took some photos, made me sign consent forms and I think he was trying to get me to go for the 410’s rather than 460’s but I said I was definately having the bigger ones! He said they’ll be ready for me in half an hour/45mins!

12:40 – Aneasthetist came in. Just asked if I was ok, and I asked if I could have the canula in my hand rather than my arm cos the thought of a needle left in my arm freaks me out a bit! – she said that should be fine.

Meanwhile the fiance is being oh so supportive – sat in the corner listening to music and playing “worms” on his iPhone!

13:05 – Nurse came to collect me to go in for surgery, waited a little longer than I thought I would to be put to sleep. Then woke up in recovery talking some rubbish about traffic?!

14:45 – Came back from recovery into my room. Wouldn’t say I’m in pain as such, but just have a really strong dull ache – like after you’ve excersized and your muscles ache. Not had food yet, going to wait until I come round a bit better as I’m still a bit disorientated at the mo!

16:00 – Just had some toast and on my third cup of coffee lol! Buzzed the nurse to see if I was ok to go to the loo! Feel like I’m drunk! Lol!

Mum and her boyfriend have popped back to see me, Ben has been here all day. They’ve said I should be able to go at about eight!

So that’s my story so far! I will keep you all updated!

I was a few doors down from you in 203 til about 1, nurse I had was lovely, Takesure, I know… Took me a few goes to get her name. Did you have a nurse with a cardy pulled round her? She was a tad grumpy. X

Great story! Sorry you had a grumpy nurse!! I worked both nhs and private and I have to say I prefer the nhs! The staff in general are friendlier in the nhs! Can I add you Holly hotpants? Xxx

I am so shocked honey,it was like a 5 start hotel when I went there,honestly I felt like royalty,well you have your boobs that’s the main thing,and here to a speedy recovery.xx

It’s not even just the grumpy nurse. But this hospital is a joke from what I’ve seen! My mum saw two surgeons – IN THEIR THEATRE SCRUBS and shoes, carrying rubbish bags out!!!! Serious health and safety issues here! Would not recommend anyone have their treatment here. However. Mr fallahdar and the anaesthetist have been great. The nurse keeps changing her mood. She put the wrong size ted stockings on me for surgery. So me and mum asked for tighter ones. And she said well they are the right ones for her measurements. As soon as we both said “when I put them on my patients on my ward…” she must have clicked that we were both nurses of some sort and changed her tune then xx

No probs hun. Don’t forget though I’m just one out of hundreds of girls who have had their procedures at Highgate. Thing is, with myself and Mum both being in the same line of work, I suppose we pick up on things like that easier than people who don’t work in a hospital! Don’t want to put anyone off or anything but I did say I would give an honest account of my experience so that’s exactly what I’ve done. Feel free to add me if you wana take a peek!! xxx
