My pt has said it’s better to work out before surgery as it stretches and strenghens the muscles… is this true or will it make recovery harder? Help? X

I can’t speak from experience but I belong to another surgery forum and there was a thread about girls who are super into working out/fitness comps etc and their experience. Their surgeons advised no chest workouts for one month prior. A few girls took the advice and their recovery was smoother and those that did chest workouts leading up to their op found recovery really painful… that being said, if you trust your surgeon (which hopefully you do) I would listen to their advice.

I didn’t seek advice or thought too much into it so just trained chest a few days before thinking is wouldn’t be doing it again for a while so best just to it … I don’t heavily train chest normally but for whatever reason I thought this was a great plan & I found my chest muscles took an extra long time to settle down … One of the nurses I spoke to did it could be my training but easily could just be my muscles in reaction to surgery but she did say that it’s best in her opinion to relax the muscles prior to surgery
