I had my BA yesterday and I really struggled with sleeping upright, can I not just sleep on my back? Or is it quite important for me to sleep sitting for their ‘development’? xx
in one word…YES ..sorry hun but it’s a must x
I would agree with lisalu71.xxx
It’s for the swelling to go down, hun. Don’t cut corners with your healing- it’s just not worth it! x
Ah rubbish! Oh well, if it is a must then that’s how I shall sleep. I mean what’s 1 week out of my life, eh? lol.
Why is it so important?? xx
Ah, your previous post didn’t show up when I put my last post up. Thanks! Yeah, I def need the swelling to go down, they look very odd atm!
xx
I found it easier than laying down anyway, after my 10 days were up I had to lower myself gently because I couldn’t sleep flat after all that! You will get used to it, prop a pillow between your bum and your knees, it stops you sliding down and makes it a bit more comfy x
Thanks for the tip princess76. I did keep sliding down and I would have to bum shuffle back up the bed, which took forever and a lot of pain to get about 5 inches up the bed! And I woke up with pain in my bum. Fun stuff! Can’t wait to feel more normal again
)
I had my op on Tuesday and slept upright Tuesday night. On Wednesday i went to sleep upright then woke up 12 hours later on my back, same on Thursday so last night just slept on my back. My swelling has gone down, my boobs have started going soft and i’ve got no pain etc so maybe everyones different. I feel back to my ‘normal’ self again but i think it’s helped that i haven’t took the pain killers because when i took them on day 1 they made me feel worse xx
Ah the old bum shuffle! Fun isn’t it?!
I’m 10 day PO and must be honest … Every morning I wake up sleeping on my back an I’m fine!
Saying that I hate lying up or on my back –
I’m dying to sleep on my side
xx
you don’t have to be bolt upright hun.
my surgeon said first 48 hours, propped up (as you were in hospital)
and for a week, still propped up but doesnt have to be as much. x
Dreading this part!! I never sleep on my back or slightly sitting up coz everytime I ever have by mistake I get sleep paralysis
guess its a must tho coz of the swelling! x
My nurse said its not essential if you really can’t do it but it will help the swelling go down if you sleep at 45 degrees. If you sleep flat the swelling will be worse and won’t go down as quick xxx
Thanks for advise girls
I always sleep on my front. When I woke up after the op, I was still out of it and I kept trying to roll on to my side, the nurse kept trying to stop me but I just kept falling back to sleep, waking up then trying to do it again lol.
I can’t wait to feel normal again, I hate it! I feel emotional as too and I’m not an emotional person at all. Xx

i can normally only sleep on my side but sleepin bolt upright is so much more comfy after you’ve had ur op. ur find it easy. im 3 days post op and currently lying flat on the sofa cos iv slid down in the night, waiting for the lazy bf to come down stairs and lift me up! lol did or does any1s scar/scars feel like there ripping when you move you arm or maybe feel like the plastic dressing is pulling on the stiches?
i had always slept on my front so i thought sleeping upright was ganna be the hardest thing, but luckily the pain killers knocked me out so i slept really well upright. im almost 3 weeks now and i tried sleeping flat a couple of times but i cant do it anymore lol i find it so comfy sleeping upright, plus i can sort of sleep so it feels like im on my side when im upright so its much better.
V-Pillows are the best! defo couldnt have done it without it. x
Yes and yes shosho21. My stitches are feeling it all the time! Hopefully it’s not the case though because we could really do with them healing! Lol
Ah yeah, jelly bean 13 I’m sending my boyfriend to go get me one today. How’s the best way to use it when sleeping? I can’t sleep at the best of times so need all the help I can get right now x
