    Hi all,

I am new to this forum and I was reading through a lot of your posts today. I am booked for an open rhino next week and was advised to stop smoking a couple of weeks before and after the surgery which I did. I already cut down smoking before and it was not too difficult for me to stop :-) However I do have a cheaky fag now and then, but very light ones. lol.

So now I am thinking if i can stop smoking (sort of) for a couple of weeks, then why not stop all together?!?

I am wondering did anyone else temorary stop smoking because of the better healing process? How did you get on?

my nurse told my at my pre op that smoking delays healing up to 90%, even she was shocked at how high that was. if you can stop i would recommend it, im trying so hard to stop smoking. i shouldnt smoke anyway as i have crohns disease and it accelerates its but its very hard to stop especially as my fiance smokes. he’s a stress head so i would rather he smokes lol, good luck stopping and with your BA, im booked in for may 22 xx

Thanks for your feedback. I am a bit paranoid about the healing process :-( I hope I do not bruise too much!

Yea I will try and stop smoking for good….let’s see how that goes. lol

Also I go running regularly and do Yoga, and I wonder how long I need to wait post op until I can go running again?? Does anyone have any experience with that? B x

i didnt stop smoking i did cut down loads and i gave up like the day before, and im only smoking like 2/3 a day i seen my nurse after 9 days she said she was shocked at how well ive healed and i didnt need any more dressings, i also was back to my normal self 2 days after the op, cleaning picking my son up the lot, so i think it all depends, it is better to give up but i never nd im fine :)

hi guys. im also finding it really hard to.stop

iv got my op in a week and iv managed to cut diwn slightly from 10-15 to about 7 or 8

iv got an electroic fag and its better than nothing. i use that to replace a couple of real fags.

hoping i will cut down to 1 or 2 a day after my op xx

Yes it is difficult to cut down…I did not smoke since Sunday :-) I try to limit smoking only to weekends! lol

But I have to say that I eat a hell lot more chocolate than I used to!!! Oh well, my skin is getting worse but it’s all for the good I hope!

I also tried the e-fags, but I did not like them tbh – wired taste!

Where is your sugery Charlie? Mine is at Highgate Hospital, London. B x

read allen carr’s easyway to stop smoking (different allen carr)

it’s really good and made it easy for me to quit. also its got so many facts in there about smoking, like why it takes longer for you to heal when you smoke, but not in the usual ‘if you smoke you will die and go to hell’ way, it’s really interesting. plus you’re meant to smoke as you read it and not quit until you finish the book.

sorry, i know this isn’t what you were asking but if it wasn’t for that book i would never have quit so i thought i’d spread the word!
