Hey Everyone,
Been around this forum a few times before, but never signed up till today
but after having Laser Lipo back in april, I just felt I needed to represent my group(Amongst all the BAs)
I had a really positive experience and I know how difficult it can be to decide to make a decision to go ahead with any kind of surgery, so I thought I would put up my story as I remember it, and if anyone can relate or wants to know anything about it then they can just ask me!
When I was about17/18 I went through a stage of hitting the gym hard every night of the week and got to a shape i was happy with after being quite scrawny before… then i started going out with my mates on the weekend and losing my six pack that I had worked so hard for, before I knew iti reached twenty, no six pack!!
I missed what i had, so i again tried to hit the gym for the same result, sadly i couldnt get back that six pack, my arms and chest seemed to come back quite easily but I just couldnt shift that one stubborn area of fat around my lower abs, no amount of sit ups seemed to make a difference!
Someone at work mentioned laser lipo and Alan Kingdon at MYA to me, so I called the number (which was hard at first as I hadnt really told many people) and found them easy to talk to, they offered me a free consutation, which i was worried about but they made me feel really at ease, I came and spoke with a lady at the clinic *Alison* in manchester (I am from leeds but was aware i would need to be coming to manchester anyway for the procedure and had a friend at uni there, so made it an excuse for a visit) she went through the risks and showed me some before and after pictures, but most importantly of all explained the procedure, with there being so many types of smart lipo/laser lipo/strawberry lipo. some needing a course of treatments others just needing a one off procedure with permanent resultsI would definately benefit from her guidance. this procedure is a one off procedure, using a laser to break up the fat then the fat is removed and the the laser is used again to tighten the skin. the fat permanently removed, all under a local anesthetic. this sounded like the one for me, as it was specifically for small stubborn areas and quick to recover from, whilst also being less invasive than the full surgical procedure… Perfect!
I was lucky, and able to see Mr. Kingdon on the same day, he was extremely nice, and joked with me about how soon I could play football after the procedure, he made it clear what kind of result i should expect and had a good look at the area in question. He really made me comfortable and i think that my confidence in MYA and the surgeon together made my mind up, I paid a deposit to hold a date in a months time from that day there and then, and was excited to be saying bye bye to my annoying lil friend!!
On the day of the surgery i had come over in the car, my dad driving as my patient coordinator had suggested the train may not be very comfortable on the way back, my dad dropped me at the clinic and had a look around manchester whilst i came into the clinic. I hadnt told my dad too much about it until that day.
I had brought pyjamas to wear for the procedure and forgot my dressing gown, there was one there for me to use, although a little small and alittle feminine, it serves me right for not remembering to bring one with me. Mr. Kingdon Marked me up (it looked like a target or a dart board) and I was ushered through to theatre with the nurses who were all lovely too, It turned out I was reading a book that mr Kingdon was also reading, which i thought seemed an odd coincidence as it wasnt a bestseller or anything, oddly this put me even more at ease with my surgeon, and I decided to listen to my ipod to take me out of the room.
I was dreading the first bit now, nerves were kicking in, and all i could think about was the film Awake, about a patient in theatre who was awake but unable to move but felt everything, I wasnt even being put to sleep I kept telling my self, as they put the dye on my stomach and started injectiung the local anesthetic into my skin, I felt the area going numb and can only describe it as wierd almost like i had just been covered in a really heavy latex slowly seeping over my stomach, i couldnt watch the procedure happening and so had my eyes closed and the sound of my music in my head which made the experience a little wierd, and as i tried to concentrate on the feeling i was having i drifted between sleep and awake, making the nurses surrounding me in green goggles even more surreal in the green haze from my own green specs!
This went on for about 40 mins and then I was done, well nearly, as Mr. Kingdon left the room the nurses really got to work pushing out all the liquid used in the surgery , its like a stomach massage, but one you can barely feel. and then they applied the pads and support garment and I was done, I sat in a nice comfy leather chair with my feet up for a bit had a cuppa and a biscuit and was ready to go home.
After the surgery i leaked what I thought was a little too much blood from my lower wound (there were 3 puncture marks in total, all almost invisible now) but I
when I called the 24 hour helpline to explain i was talked through it and put at ease that this was normal as it was just gravity taking the blood to the lower wound, this stopped before the 24 hours was up.
I actually played football, 9 days after the op and i played the full 90 minutes.
I was aware of something but never in any pain almost like a bruise you dont know is there till you knock it. I was pleased to recover so quickly! This wouldnt be possible after full surgical lipo.
I have seeen my nurse post op and am awaiting my appointment later this month where I will be getting my post op pictures, and will definately be putting them up. if anyone wants them or would like to know anything else feel free to ask.
with regards to the results I am really happy, you get a glimpse on the day before the swelling but then you need to wait for the swelling to go back down till you start getting the proper results, I have been stopped by friends since and asked if I have lost weight, I have gone down 1 and a half belt loops and all round much more comfortable.
Apologies for droning on, i feel like I needed to do something for anyone struggling to make up there minds. especially with all the breast procedures. Hope I havent bored anyone….. although its far too late now if I have
Thanks everyone at MYA

I really enjoyed reading this, I would love to have laser lipo but I am so worried at the thought of being awake for the procedure, and also the recovery time (I have a very physical job and would need to be sure I was ok to return to it quickly). I had my ba 3 weeks ago and have healed quite slowly from that, so I’m not sure I’m the best healer anyway! I was going to have traditional lipo at the same time but in the end decided not to as I hadn’t done enough research and was worried the results would take longer to show, plus the laser lipo was what I really wanted and that would mean having it at a different clinic so the traditional lipo was a second choice and in the end wasn’t worthwhile for me at that time. I am under 10st now but because of the spare tyre that no dieting or gym will budge, I am depressingly still a size 14. I love the idea that the laser lipo tightens the skin as well. How long were you feeling bruised for and how much time did you take off work? I would def think about getting a quite next year for it if I can overcome the lack of GA!
Thanks!
Loved reading this story thanks for sharing.xxx
Hi Princess! Dont worry about the recovery time, I was prepared for the worst but didnt have any issues, a good excuse for a few days in bed and some much needed relaxation.
I didnt entertain the idea of full liposuction, Just too radical a procedure for my needs.
I had no visible bruises but am told some people bruise over the area, I was aware of it, that bruised feeling, for a few days after, but a day or two prior to the footbal match I played in I was feeling fine.
Obviously I may have been lucky and/or a quick healer but I had the procedure on the friday and was back at work on the Monday although I do work in an office so not too physical…
Go for it, Am so glad I did it!
Quite pleased with my Novel, Glad someone noticed it
Im worried about the pain and friends knowing I have had lipo, I wont to keep it quite is this possible, can you see the compression bandage under clothes and will I be mobile. I am size 12 legs bum but more a 14 around stomach will i really notice a difference…
What dOes it cost? Xx
Leggs11: You can definately keep it quiet if you want to, plenty of my friends don’t know Ive had it done. The garments are like lycra under your clothes so just wear baggy clothes to be safe (maks winter a good time to do it
)
With regards to the difference it will make, your best to discuss that with a surgeon, they will be able to show you pictures and youul know what to expect before you decide whether you want to go ahead or not.
Anchovie: I had one area done, which cost just over 2 grand(Still paying it off on finance, only a few months left till Im done
)
Leggs11 i didn’t tell a soul about the laser lipo i just had done on my inner n outer thighs n saddlebags. I took a few days off work for ‘medical reasons’ and am staying in a BnB in Manchester. My op was yesterday (Wed) so ill be back for the weekend. The leakage has almost stopped, and i will be able to take out the bandages. So really, all im hiding is the garment – and it’s winter, so it’ll be easy! I know ill still be a bit tender, but it’s not going to be blatantly obvious to anyone. Work on Monday – easy!
Wow… thanks Lloyds and everyone else! I really would like to have a procedure such as this because even though I do work out, I haven’t been able to shift one stubborn bit of fat in my lower abs since I was 21… Thank you all for sharing xx

Thanks for the post lloyds25, it was really helpful!
Carolc how much did it cost to get inner and outer thighs done? I want my saddlebags done but not sure if this counts as 2 areas (as I have two legs!). Have you seen the results you wanted?
Thanks,
Tali x
Hi Talia. I had my inner and outer thighs, and also saddlebags (they are included). I think it was around £2800? I didnt really want to know too much! They do it according to the number of areas, so it goes about £3000 if you want a third. Hmm tricky question – i had definately noticed a difference, but my inner thighs are quite lumpy. I have been told it takes upto 6 months to subside. So i am just going to have to be patient!
Hi Carol c, Ive got my appointment on the 21st jan. Inner and outer thighs/saddlebags. I’m worried about the lumpy inner thigh have u got any pictures?? Also how did u god the procedure?
