I should imagine it they are guaranteed to last a lifetime they are reassuring you they will not rupture in a life time, however,no one can predict how your skin will change in the next 10 years,as we age gravity takes its toll, breast without implants change as we get older,so I am assuming breasts with implants will too,so perhaps the implant will last but it is how you feel about the changes in your body as to whether or not you may want to change your look again in say 10 to 15 years time, you may not.Its how you feel personally.xxx

I dont think you will give up and let nature take its course once you’ve had them you’ll want to keep them, lol. Some women on other forums have had their implants 20 years and they don’t have a problem with them,I am sure I saw a post about it a few months back,if you are happy with them and there are no health issues I would say leave them as they are. But it is entirely up to you honey.xxx

Yes true Tina, lol but I would like to know this… So MYA MOD what do u say can they still be in when I’m 80? Eeeew x

Unless they rupture or you want a re op they should be fine. However, once the implants get older, say 10-15 years, the chance of rupture increases rapidly. Therefore it is RECOMMENDED to change them, it is not necessary.

After 3 years, make sure to get MRI scans every year or every other year to check for rupture.xx

    I did’nt know this,you learn something new everyday.xxx

It does cost to get MRI scans yes…but it is the only way to spot a silent rupture. Most ruptures with silicone implants are ‘silent’. You don’t have to get a MRI if you don’t want to, but even Mentor and Allergan recommend it.

And I’d rather find a rupture as early as possible, instead of becoming ill first and then check if there might be a rupture.xx

Ive just asked MYA mod re this, hopefully mod will comment soon x

I don’t know if you can get a MRI with your ps, but you might want to visit your gp, so you can get forwarded to a hospital, to get your MRI scans.

Please keep in mind, the scans are not 100% accurate. They can show a rupture, but sometimes it’s false alarm. This doesn’t happen very often, though. Nevertheless, it is the closest we can get to check for ruptures, non surgically. Xx

I asked my PS during consultation about the “lifetime guarantee” and he said that basically if your implant ever rapture, they will replace it for you free of charge, whether it happens in 10, 15 or 20 years…

    Hi all

    Please see the response below:

Just to confirm that there is no expiry date on an implant. The decision to change implants is usually a personal one made by a patient, based on how their breasts look aesthetically. Age, weight loss/gain, pregnancy and breastfeeding can all affect the appearance and shape of your breasts over time and some patients may take the decision to change them.

MYA do not specifically recommend that patients with implants to have an MRI scan every three years. We provide a full aftercare package with an open door policy. If at any time a patient was concerned or had any questions about their breasts they can always come in to meet with a surgeon who would advise the best course of action.

Any questions please contact your PC who will be more than happy to advise.

    Hi Cuks

Just to reiterate, we do not recommend MRI scans every three years.

If you would like to find out more about MRI scans we recommend speaking about this with your GP.

    Many thanks
