My operation is booked for a week today on 27th January…I have everything prepared, and have booked a non returnable fee with premier inn in Doncaster. I have the kids babysat for 2 days and my hubby has taken holiday to look after me / the kids.

Then today I find out that I have a low platelet count…you are supposed to be within 150-400 and I am 129. So my nurse is calling the surgeon team and I will find out Monday/Tuesday if I’ll be able to go ahead with the op!! :(

I’ve been sooo excited and thought it was all too good to be true. Well it might be now :(

Has anyone else had a low platelet count, and what happened?? xx

    Hi Beth,

I was in a similar situation in summer. I booked my op for the 15th August, booked the week off work and everything. When I came to see the surgeon about the size of my implants I made her aware that I had been on medication that affected my blood (although this had been a couple of years before) so I had a blood test. About 3 weeks before the op I got a phone call saying I had low white blood cells and my op had to be post poned until my blood was fine. I had a blood test 4 weeks after the initial test and everything was fine. However I was going on holiday and couldn’t fit it in around work therefore I had to leave it until earlier this week when i’ve FINALLY had the op!

I went to the doctors before xmas to have another blood test to double check everything was ok and it was.

I was absolutely gutted about the original op being post poned but at the end of the day you don’t want to be ill afterwards or put yourself at a high risk (the surgeon won’t operate if there is a high risk either).

Fingers crossed you sort things out :-)

    xxxx

Thanks Stacey, I know I’m trying to be thankful that they spotted it, and it is for the best that they make sure you are ok for the op….it’s just so frustrating after having got prepared and excited for it :(

Anyway, I’m not super low on the platelet count, the nurse said they’d do everything they could to let me have the op next week, so long as it’s safe for me.

You’ll be able to understand what I’m going through! xx

Yeh it’s horrible, like you say it’s not that much lower than what they’d like it to be, they might just monitor you more carefully!!xxxx

Just wondering if anyone else has had this? It’s tough not being able to find out until Tuesday if I’m having the op on Friday, or not xx
