    Please help!
I have my surgery booked for the middle of April and have already paid £1000. I am meeting my surgeon next month as well as having my consultation with the nurse as well as paying for the rest of my surgery. In April I would have been on my medication for 6 months and I’m on the waiting list for counselling. No suicide attempts or anything but have though about it. I really want this surgery and I’ve read cases where surgery has been cancelled due to mental health. I’m freaking out please help!

Sorry I ain’t much help but I know how strict they can as they have had concerns about me having just low moods in the past kept on asking me so many questions and even wrote to my doctor asking if I am fit for surgery. All is ok with me and due for surgery on Thursday. Hope all goes well, I am sure if the docs give you the go ahead you may be fine xx

Everything depends on how your GP finds you now. If you stopped taking pills over 6 months ago it should be okay although I was told they prefer the patients to be clear for a year to make sure they are absolutely fine. Also you are waiting for counselling sessions so I would really speak to your PC and GP first to find out what they think in this case.
Fingers crossed for hun and good luck x

In April (the month of my surgery) I will have been on my medication for 6 months. Im awaiting counselling also. They know about my medication but I’ve only just found out about counselling so will be honest with them when I visit my nurse and surgeon next month. Thank you though. Its a hard one because some people’s surgeries have been cancelled but others have had the go ahead. I just don’t want to lose all of that money if it was to get cancelled xxxx

I’m on medication for anxiety and the surgeon just wanted a GP note to prove I’d been on the same meds and amount for at least 6 months, also to write that I was fit and healthy for surgery. It wasn’t difficult for me at all, I gave my permission to my doctors that MYA could speak to then and so my PC called them to get some details faxed over and I had my surgery no problems. Hope everything goes well for you and your GP gets it sorted for you xx

I had my pre op recently and I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in may 2017 I haven’t been taking medication for it or anything but they told me as long as your GP can confirm you have been mentally stable for 3 months on or off medication they can go ahead, if you have recently been diagnosed I think you need to wait 6 months??? (Can’t remember exactly how many months if you have recently been diagnosed) hope this helps 🙂 xxxx
