I due to have my ba on the 6th of jan, I had my preop last week and one of my swabs for mrsa came back pos :( I’ve had to use nasal ointment and hibiscrub for 5 days. I’m due to be re swabbed again on thurs this week and I have been told I have to have 3 weeks of consecutive negative results before my surgery can go ahead ( so fingers crossed).

I’m just wondering if this has happened to anyone else as I’m convinced that I’ll just pick it up again, as I work in a hospital. It’d be just my luck! Any help/ reassurance would be great as I’m stressing a bit that it’s gonna be postponed :( all I need to worry about over Xmas too x

I’m not with mya, but I had to have mrsa swabs at my pre op last Friday.

I don’t work in a hospital or anything but apparently as a private independent hospital it’s their policy to swab everyone!?!

My op is this Friday so hoping everything is ok as if the results come back positive they will postpone my op:)

Hi ladies, we have studied a bit about mrsa at uni and thought it may be useful to you. Mrsa is related to a food poisoning bacteria staph aureus which is found naturally in all humans. Staph aureus is generally linked to the skin and the strain mrsa is a resiliant bacteria to methacillin (and has evolved to be unaffected by the penacilin family) and is named methacilin resistant staphylococcus aureus or mrsa for short. Although mrsa is linked directly to clinical enviroments it is possible to carry or test positive if you are a staph carrier.

My advice would be to make sure you are not scrubbing your hands red raw wheney cleaning / washing as this can agrivate the bacteria in your skin and bring higher levels to the surface.

I hope it helps and apologies if you already know :)
