So I woke up at 5.30 because my admission time to Preston first trust was 9.30 and I live north of Newcastle and the journey was about 3 hours. My mum and dad took me down and we left about 6.00. On the journey we got pulled over by the police coz my dad was speeding! I was thinking why today?!!! But it was fine we were ahead of schedule and eventually got on our way again. Arrived at Preston about 8.45 so we were early. It was fine though because I got shown my room straight away! Got settled in and watched TV with my parents. The lovely chatty nurse came in and went through my medical history, blood pressure, weight etc. She then got my lovely socks and paper knickers. She helped me put my socks on. Thank god!
Then the doctor came to see me to check my breathing and medical history again.
A while later the anaesthetist came to tell me what he would do telling me that I had a lovely smile
He said that he would put his medicine in and I would have lovely dreams!Helena came in and drew on me and said that there was somebody before me and then it was me!
It was about 12.15 and my parents asked when I would go in for my procedure and the nurses said that it would be about 1.30. My parents hadn’t eaten anything all day so they left about 12.30 to go and have lunch and said that they would be back by the time I was out of surgery. I wasn’t really nervous about it so I was fine.
At about 1.30 someone from the surgical team came to get me and it became real!! I walked down the the anaesthetic room and lay on the bed. The anaesthetist came in and again said that I had a lovely smile! Maybe I was smiling so much because I was trying to convince myself that everything would be ok! They put the cannula in which was absolutely fine. Then he started putting the anaesthetic in. I started panicking because I wasn’t sleeping. The nurse said take deep breaths. Only a little but had been put in! I then felt it in my hand and then my eyes and fell straight asleep.
Then I woke up in the recovery room and I felt like a million people were talking to me! Everyone was saying that it went really well and everything was fine. All I was thinking was that I wanted to sleep! The nurse asked me if I wanted to see them and I said yes so she lifted my head and my top. I was like Ooooooohhhhhh! Which everyone found funny. I must have been smiling again because the anaesthetist commented on it again! The nurse said I was looking very well which I was surprised at because I felt soooo tired! I was wheeled back to my room where I saw my mum and dad. I wanted to tell them about it but I was too tired and wanted to just sleep! Dad kept trying to talk to me but mum was like ssshhh! Stop talking to her shes tired! I slept for a little bit and tried to eat some toast but I felt too sick. I was given anti-sickness medication and went to the toilet. I was a bit dizzy but it was fine. Later on I managed to eat some soup and drink a cup of team. My parents left because I was just sleeping the whole time. (they were staying in a hotel because I stayed overnight). Throughout the evening I managed to go to the toilet by myself and drink lots of water. I had quite a good nights sleep. I was the only one to stay overnight so I had 2 nurses and a doctor to myself! I felt much brighter in the morning. Got my drains out. Helena came and had a check. Everything was fine and I was discharged about 9.00. I was dreading the car journey home because I thought I was going to be car sick but it was absolutely fine. No police on the way home! Got home about 1 I think. Since then I’ve been improving really well everyday. I was surprised at how quickly I recovered! Sooo pleased with the results and wouldn’t have changed anything!
He said that he would put his medicine in and I would have lovely dreams!
