I’ve seen lots of posts lately about wanting to lose weight/tone up and so I thought I’d write down my tips. Im quite little now but when me and my other half split up I piled on 3 stone (Seriously, I dont know how I did it!)

    Excercise

I joined the gym but I didnt move in by any means! I although now quite like running and stuff at the time it was my WORST nightmare so I just did hill walks on the treadmill – I’d whack the gradient up and get a fair bit of speed so I was power walking and do it for 20-30 mins a time (so nope no hours in the gym 20 minutes and your out!) Id burn like 300+ calories which is more than if Id be running as fast as I can so DEFFO reccomend the hillwalk and its not horribe you get hot and feel like your working out but you dont feel rank and like your getting a stitch! I did that 2/3 times a week

    WHAT TO EAT

I stopped eating Carbohydrates – that sounds restrictive its really not, I promise you. I used to live off bread, pasta and hobnobs! But its not a diet, I call it like a new lifestyle lol..sounds silly, but like after day 3 you stop craving **** and because you start to see results almost instantly your constantly motivated to keep going!

Calories are a myth, they are how much ENERGY you get from your food. So how much they will fill you up. So a chicken breast for example has 150 cals (Seems quite a few?) but whats it made up of? PROTEIN. Your body can NOT store protein and therefore it feeds your muscles and body and is then broken down by your kidneys and weed out! So the more you fill up on protein the better!

    Things I eat:

    – Chicken (Breast – Grill/Fry) (Birdseye Chicken Chargrills – Mexican/Piri Piri/BBQ/Original – ALL LOVELY! They even do packet chicken like ready cooked in shopping isles which r a brill snack for lunch and when feeling greedy PLUS no weight gained!!)

    – Currys (I buy like the curry sauces which have a few carbs in but I then put chicken in and veg, carrots, peas, peppers, onions, courgettes) and NO rice. I just eat the sauce but its lovely and thats the best bit of a curry anyway!

    – Bolognese (mince meat with chopped tomatoes i also put peppers, carrots & onions in but this is just choice)

    – Salad with no dressing (I do it nice with little tomatoes, bright peppers, cucumber, red onion chopped up and salad cream)

    – Scrambled egg (So quick & easy I just hand whisk the eggs in a little bowl and put in microwave for 1min30!)

    – Bacon (grilled no bread)

    – Yoghurts (not every day but theyre a nice creamy type treat lol)

    – Fruit I loveeeeeeee it

    – Vegetables

    – Tuna (I like it i know few people do lol, I mix it with salad cream – no sandwhich though but fillings always the best bit and not the bit that makes you put weight on)

    – Tomato soup

    – Baked beans

    – Basically i can have a full english I grill bacon, scramble eggs and can have beans..i wouldnt do it every day but I could if i wanted to lol!

    – Can eat other meats like sausages, ham, lamb, pork.

Thats just so you can see how much variety and choice there is yo ucan still love food and live a new skinnier lifestyle! By day 3 you no longer crave naughty food, I lost 3 stone and my sister who was always a size 14 and didnt htink it would ever be possible to be skinny, gave it a try too and now she is a size 8 and she and I were both absolutely amazed at how easy it was (Seriously after years of failing exercise dvds, fad diets, generally feeling **** about our weight we finally found a quick but really easy new lifestyle)..

Proper sound like im preeching but deffo reccomend giving it a try, by day 3 its so easy and results are virtually instant!

Thought Id share with you all because your all lovely & my weight used to make me really down xxxxxxxxxxx

    Menu

nicdev1…i follow a similar diet but i do eat cereal just in the morning, i love it too much not to eat it, and i think anything you eat for breakfast is burnt off through the day.i do tend to stick to healthier cereals though…porridge, bran, no coco pops lol. i still noticed a huge difference to my weight :) great news on the healthy lifestyle vikkix xx

Perfect timing this thread, I now have boobs but it’s come at a price! No gym means my shape has changed and not for te better. Although I’ve gained no weight (but would like to lose 10lb min) I have developed a horrible tummy and I’m 5 weeks PO :-( I don’t generally eat that much. I have a fruit & veg homemade juice in the morning, soup at lunch time and then my dinner. I do have a sweet tooth so when I do cave in its a few rich tea here and there or pic a mix :-( with PCOS, sugar isn’t good! I could live off chicken tho an have done before and lean ham.

What’s a typical days intake for you vikki with snacks too?

Chellebelle i couldn’t agree with you more. I’m just over 6 weeks post op now and althought i’ve only out on around 3lbs (not including boob weight) I feel its more like a stone! I’ve lost all my tone and im so wobbly and horible! I generally eat quite well too but I do have a sweet tooth that gets the better of me. I try to limit my food but to be honest without the gym it doesnt do a right lot. Roll on Thursday when my membership is unfrozen!! x x

    – Laurakate: I normally go to the gym and have my dinner after (chicken breast and a salad) or something as i go straight from work but sometimes I’ll eat before It depends on time of day I go to gym it’s however it fits in with normal meal times

    – nicdev1 I’m afraid it would be but you could tailor it to suit u if it’s impossible. The thing about the “lifestyle” chane is by not eating carbs by day 3 it’s really easy if you still have some, sounds silly but even a bowl of cereal a day it means your Body will still crave them and it will make it harder for yourself to cut them out all together. Also by cutting out carbs which are v slow to break down into energy your body breaks down stored fats as energy much quicker as fat is easier to burn off so you lose weight much quicker as your body can begin working off stored weigt instead of using your carb intake as energy

I’d recommend trying it for 2 weeks Hun seeing the results with no cereal and then deciding – I myself used to love jam on toast defo don’t miss it!

    – chellebelle: it sounds like you’ll find this really easy then I 100% recommend it just swap your rich tea for fruit or even snack on cooked chicken or quick portion scrambled eggs or something if you are really peckish and you will see results so quickly and your sweet tooth will vanish as your body will stop craving them (seriously never thought I’d give up hobnobs!)

Yes Low carb or even low GI diets work well.. You can just about eat as many eggs as you like, so get your thinking caps on what you can do with eggs.

I’ve also found if you need to snack then air popped popcorn works really well.. It fills you up and very low in calories and carbs.

Apparently a few of the celebs use it including madonna.

    Laurakate-

you should always eat after a workout. Your pre and post workout meals are like the most important meals.

You should eat around 2 hours before a workout.

This meal should contain protien and if your eating carbs this is the best time to have them your body will use the carbs for energy. Make sure they are good carbs though like porridge oats or brown rice.

After a workout you should eat as soon as possible after, preferably within half an hour to an hour after. This meal should contain protien as it aids recovery to your muscles and no carbs with this meal.

The only time I’d say not to eat before a workout is if your working out first thing in the morning. I will usually run on empty then eat after.

I eat 5-6 small meals a day rather than 3 larger ones as this speeds up your metabolism so you’ll lose weight quicker.

Workout, breakfast, mid-morning meal, lunch, mid-afternoon (pre-workout) meal, workout, dinner (post-workout) meal.

Hi I’m giving this a go, I’ve been on a traditional diet and back in the gym for 2 months and only lost about 7lb so far. I started yesterday and used an online app to add up the carbs etc. shocked to find bananas and baked beans have quite a lot of carbs in them. I read a journal article this morning which demonstrated significantly more weight loss with an atkins type diet than a regular low fat high carb traditional type diet at 3, 6 and 9 months with results similar at the 12 month mark. In the article they said that they had participants eating less than 20g per day of carbs in the beginning which is apparently what atkins recommends, Ive had more than that already today with a banana, protein shake and mushroom omlette… What sort of ammount of carbs are people following a low carb diet eating? thanks

Can anyone help nikki?? I need to follow a similar one too x

    Hi

I still eat bananas they do have carbs in most veg do which is surprising!

The carbs in veg are not the complex carbohydrates in bread and pasta, etc.

Complex carbs are an absolute strict no! With fruit and veg you can be less strict although don’t go o a fruit binge as it will slow down your weight loss! I eat perhaps a banana and an apple a day. I’ll have a salad which will be few lettuce leaves, red onion, four/five cherry tomatoes, 1/4 pepper, 5 slices cucumber and a chicken breast.

Key thing to bear in mind is ur better off having an extra chicken breast as a snack if ur really hungry as it’s protein which u can’t store!

girls i personally thing the whole diet thing is rubbish, personally the minute you add the word diet, you limit yourself by what you can eat and instantly start craving these things. i think the key to being a healthy weight is by having a healthly lifestlye which means by conbining a healthy amount of exercise and eating good food you can loose wait and also keep it off.

i have been a size 6/8 all my life and have always eaten healthy and exercised regularly but never stopped myself having anything if i fancy it.

the thing is with fad diets 75% of women put the weight back on because these fad diets r u unable to keep up long term, also the first 2 weeks of changing your diet you loose water weight, wish instantly you put back on when you go back to eating your normal food.

i think the key to a healthy lifes style which will result in you loosing weight slowely but keeping it off is too make small changes.

*eat a whole grain breakfast such as weetabix, poached eggs on whole meal toast. these foods are complex carbs which keep you fuller for longer so your less likely to snack.

*drink 2 litrs of water a day, this stops you holding water.

    * i drink green tea which aid wait loss and had many healing properties

    * if you fancy something surgery have some fruit, bananas r a super fruit which give you more energy than any other fruit if i need a energy boost they are the first thing i go for.

    * grill and steam your food rather than frying it

*drink a glass of water before a meal fills you up so you eat less

*eat of smaller plates this also stops you eating as much

    * change white varieties of bread or pasta etc for brown.

    * eat food with a low gi such as sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes low gi foods take longer to break down in the body, thus keeping your suger levels at a good level to keep u going, high gi foods give you boosts of energy but then u get a suger come down which may make you look for the nearest choccie bar lol

    * ain to do 30 min of cardio 4 times a weeks, this can be anything from jogging to cycling to power walking.

*also little changes like walking where u can, instead of using the car or elevators also contributes to a healthy life style.

these sort of small changes you can do and keep up long term and you far more likely to seeing permanent results as apose to yo yo dieting which is no good for you.
