I found other members posts on there experience so beneficial so thought i’d write my own experience up.
Monday 19th – Operation Date
When i woke up, i thought theres no way i can go through this… my mya friends put my mind at ease though n i went to the hospital.
My admission time was 11am, Had a visit from Dr G…I told him how scared i was…n he was so nice, understanding and very supportive. Next had a visit from the anesistist – i was also scared of the anasthetic ( See im a complete wuss lol) n she was really reassuring too.
Walking down to the anasthetic room made me cry…I was so nervous, n i was a bit of a pain for the nurses as i was panicing so much. They said If i didnt calm down I wouldnt be able to have the procedure…so i shut up and just decided to let them get on with it..next minute feel my body quickly shuting down then had some crazy dreams…Woke up which felt like a few minutes later as they were moving me off the operating table on to a bed..My vision was so blurry, my mouth was dry and my throat hurt, I tried to get up but the nurse pushed me back down. So i just laid there for a bit listening to nurse goin on about something (cant remember what now tho) then a blurry Dr G came n held my hand saying everything went well.. then i was wheeled back to my room and got the drink i wanted so much.
As soon as the anasthetic wore off i felt more or less myself again…no pain, no bruising or swelling…only thing that was bothering me was blood trickling down my throat and the sore throat but everything was bearable. Also found i was desperate for a wee but couldnt go ahhh lol…but that soon wore off.
I had this really nice pasta and ice cream for tea…but my throat hurt that much i couldnt eat much just been drinking water.
Dr G also came to visit me again to check i was ok and explain how everything went – which was apparently very well.
I was scared to go to sleep…think i drifted off a few times but didnt really sleep much.
Nurses also came and checked my blood pressure, oxygen levels and temperature every so often up till about 11pm. Everyone at highgate is so nice and caring, im so greatful for the way they treated me.
Tuesday 20th – 1 Day Post op
Got woken up at 7am by the nurse to check my blood pressure and temperature, I had bruising under my eyes and was a little bit swollen too.
Then had some breakfast but couldnt eat any of it cuz of my throat
….then time for package removal…that was so weird…not really painful but weird lol.
Mr G then came n visited again to check on me and give me some verbal information.
Got given antibiotics, paracetomal and nasel spray n then time to go home..
Had to stop at a service station on the way home…that was so embarrassing …everyone was staring..will not be going out till this cast is off, which seems a long time away xx
