My story – 11th April 2012

I got up at 5:30am so I had enough time to eat breakfast before my 6:30am cut off for the 6 hour ‘nil by mouth’ rule. I had to get a taxi at 8am and a coach from Portsmouth at 8:40am. I was excited but quite calm on the way up to London, just trying not to think about it too much!

I got to the hospital a bit early (11:45am) but they showed me to my room and let me settle in before the first lovely nurse came in to fill out some paperwork and take my height and weight etc. Then I put my sexy paper knickers and gown on (which was missing a 2nd toggle around the waist so the bottom half was wide open unless I wrapped it around me and held the cord!)

At about 2:30pm Mr Adamo came in to draw on me and take some pictures for my file. Then I tried to find something decent on TV to pass the time and texting 2 other lovely girls in the hospital on the same day!

At about 4pm the nurse came in to take me down to surgery I wasn’t really nervous at all but I remember laughing at myself for having a massive grin on my face as I was walking down the hall and past the other nurses

The Anaesthetist was really nice but couldn’t find a vein to put the cannula in on my left arm! After 2 attempts she tried my right arm and got it in fine. I remember the clock said 4:07 and Michael Jackson, Beat It was on the radio when she put the oxygen mask on me and told me to take deep breaths. I started thinking of my dog in the park during summer with a massive smile on her face and it made me smile.

Next thing I know I was in recovery with another nurse saying my name and asking if I could hear her, she put my hands on my chest and I started crying. I couldn’t believe it was all over and I had boobies! It all seemed so simple! It hurt to cry though so I had to make myself stop hyperventilating but apparently crying is a side effect of the anaesthetic anyway!I kept saying thank you to all the staff around too! The clock said 5:20pm I couldn’t believe it; it felt like it had been longer. Soon after that I was taken back to my room and went back to sleep for another hour.

I ordered dinner for about 7:30pm I had to eat very small amounts very slowly, putting my head back and dozing every now and then when I felt nauseous. I kept telling myself that I wasn’t going to be sick I just needed to relax and luckily I didn’t throw up once! And I finished my while dinner (by 9:30!) but I still finished it

I slept on and off all night waking up every couple of hours. Woke up in the morning feeling ok but when the nurse asked if I wanted any pain killers I took them just in case. I had my fry up (nomnom) and started to get dressed but had to call a nurse to help put my jeans on. Mr Adamo came back to see me around 10am and was quite pleased with his work and glad I was still grinning

They still feel quite tight and hard and high but even now 24 hours Post Op they are starting to feel softer (I can’t keep my hands off them!)
