I enjoyed the op day stories when I wa pre-op and found them reassuring so decided to share mine and hope it helps the girls on here.

I got my admission time on Friday for Sunday. It was 8am but I didnt know where I was on the list. I travelled down the night before and stayed at Earl of Doncaster hotel. It was really nice and reasonably priced. Was only 5 min drive from hospital. The breakfast looked great as i watched my boyfriend eat it!

I arrived at hospital at 8am, was taken straight to my room and told to wait for nurse. She arrived quickly to measure my legs for stockings and asked a few questions. I told her I was nervous and my pc has suggested I ask for a pre med. She said that wasnt a problem and she could arrange that. I got changed into my gown, paper knickers and stockings and the anaethtisits (cant spell and my arms are stiff so going to excuse myself!!) came round. He was lovely and put me at ease. He agreed I was nervous, I was shaking by this point and said I could have premed and I was first on the list. I was excited but it made me more nervous.

Mr Kazzazi came and drew on me and said “you do realise you will have large breasts with 525cc?”. For a moment I paniced and had visions of never seeing my feet again etc. I had serious doubts for a second and I thought I could maybe just live with padded bras. He took photos and told me there was no time for a premed. He was away to draw on the other 2 girls due that day then it was my turn. I could go and get on with it and be scared for a few mins or wait an hour for premed to take effect. I said I would just go.

The nurse walked me up to the lift at 10am, i think she was supposed to leave me to go up myself but i was shaking so much, she took me up. I lay down on the trolley, they put a needle in my hand and chatted and within seconds I was gone to sleep. NOthing to be scared of. To any preop girls who are scared of ga – dont be. I was the biggest wimp and was ok – pm me if you want and I can share my story.

I woke up back in my room at 1pm, I had taken ages to wake up in recovery and they took me back to my room before I realised. I was dopey until 4 and then had some toast and tea.

I was bandaged up with drains, i wasnt in pain but my chest felt heavy.

I had my sandwich at 6ish and then dozed. I kept my gown on because its easier with drains and never put my pjs on.

Finaly needed a wee at 10pm, the nurse helped me out of bed, was a bit shaky but ok.

Woke once in the night having my blood pressure checked.

Drains out in the morning, Mr Kazzazi came in and looked and said “you will be happy with those” and left. He is great and I would reccommend him to anyone. He doesnt say much but knows exactly what he is doing.

    I was discharged at 930am.

Havent had much pain and been relaxing at home, feel more uncomfortable than anything else. Very bloated but can live with that.

Sorry this has been a big essay but thought it may help. Any questions, please ask.

Thanx bellebo, great day by the sounds of it. I have my ba on 15th nov n im really nervous, not so much of the op but puttin the needle in for ga. Ive got really tiny veins n wen ever I have a blood test etc, they always have to try several attempts to find a vein, n its never in my arm! Wen I was pregnant with my son, I had to much protein or sugar, cant remember which. So they had to take blood, well the nurse at the docs was bloody useless, n stabbed me with that needle 14 times! Still to no avail, after bein left lumpy, bloody n bruised I told her I wud smack the life out of her if she tried again! So she refered me to hosp to do it in the end, n they couldnt understand y the previous nurse butchered me, as they did it with a finger prick test!! Pffft.is there anything they can give me to knock me out first, b4 they put the needle in? But not a sedative, I dont wanna b aware of anything! Sorry for essay, happy healin hun xxx
