My story and rhino questions…

Hi everyone,

I am 20 years old and have wanted rhinoplasty for a very long time, as long as I can remember. The size and shape of my nose makes me miserable and is ruining my life. I have 0 self confidence and suffer from a lot of anxiety which is spiraling out of control, I regularly have fears of leaving the house, getting a job etc. I also meet a lot of nasty people, but the main cruelty I feel comes from friends who deliberately take the most unflattering photos of me when I’m not aware (or bully me into doing things) and post them on social networking websites. As if I need a reminder of how hideous it is As I am currently a university student, I am finding raising money to be very difficult.

Does anyone have any similar stories?

How did you deal with people’s nasty attitudes?

What age where you when you had the surgery?

How has the surgery changed your life?

What was the response of friends and family?

hi i feel near enough the same i bravely just put a profile pic on here highlighting my nose… only because everyone on here is in the same boat and we all feel the same, i get depressed evreyday and dont go out much as its started to affect me more and more as days go on… im seeing dr gonschoir soon and i hope he can achieve what i want as soon as possible, ave you booked a consultation yet?

All I can add is that these people aren’t friends. Kick them to the curb and find friends that love you for you xxxx

I work in a secondary school and used to work in a youth club some of the children have called me big nose alongside other names. My family have all said ive got a big nose i hate it, 5 weeks ago tomorrow i had my ba after this i have decided to have my nose done this december i cant wait ive seen the surgeon he said it should be ok to have it closed i see pics one woman had my nose and looked completey different. The boobs have given me a bit more confidence though this week i hate them a new nose would just do wonders good luck to you i know how u fwwl with then name calling x x x

I felt exactly the same as you did and sometimes still do. I had my rhino last September (when I was 23), wanted it for so long. I thought it would change everything with regards to confidence and anxiety, yes it had an impact but its important to understand that it will not solve everything.

It’s always hard to deal with ppls nasty comments but would you want to know ppl like this anyway, just ignore them… They usually do it to cover up their own insecurities and are often just jealous and want you to feel as bad as they do).

I used a lot of my student loan to cover the costs and then my parents helped out (once they’d got used to the idea – they weren’t impressed at first but once they knew how much I wanted it they came round but still didn’t agree with it)

Och hon know how you feel.

My mates arent as bad as yours sound but my mates little boy told me I had a wicked witches nose the other week could have just died!!!!!!!!! This was in front of a bout a bazillion other people aswell nearly burst into tears.

Wow thanks for such lovely supportive messages. Makes a huge difference to know you’re not alone. I haven’t booked a consultation yet, trying to save up first, got about £1000 saved, so its a start.

Hello, I am also 19 and at University. I have been for a consultation and I’m going to Birmingham in 2 weeks to meet the surgeon!! When i told my mum I wanted it done she was very supportive as she hates her nose too and said if her parents had the money when she was my age she would have 100% got it done too!! I cant wait to get it done. I have a big bump in the middle which I want removed and hate the way it looks in photos!!

When I was younger people used to say nasty things but now I’m in uni people seem to be a bit more grown up so i don’t get comments anymore. But when i was younger yes i had quite a few but the best way i found to deal with it was just to ignore them and try not to let them get to you! xxxxx

Yeah it was fine the woman i had called Katy was lovely!! She gave me so much information!! I’m excited to just meet mr G now I hate all the waiting haha xxx

And anyone else that has had these nasty comments, I can’t believe that people could be so cruel. As Karins says kick them to the curb, these are not friends. I’ve always hated my nose but my friends are all shocked I’m having the operation, some even say they’d never even noticed… Think they are just being kind!

Hey, I’ve been through a few of those things you’ve mentioned and it really is not nice..i can totally sympathise! I’m 23 (its taken me five years to actually sum up the courage and do something!) and have always always hated my nose. i have a big nose with a droopy tip and when i smile it looks really beaky. anywho, i’ve had all sorts of horrible comments thrown at me over the years particularly when i was at uni, however i am happy in myself and have great friends and a fab job despite of this. i’m looking to get surgery in July for ME, no one else…it isnt the be all and end all hun! however what your friends have said/done is unforgivable. do this for YOU not for them….you deserve a whole lot better!
