Hi
I have not long got home after having my surgery done yesterday. Arrived at highgate about 12pm and was taken to my room about 12.30. The nurse came in and took my BP, height and weight and gave me those special stockings and paper knickers to wear… Next my surgeon came to see me and took some photo’s then got me ready for theatre, I filled in some paperwork with the nurse and before I knew it I was in the lift on my way for surgery…. Hadn’t been feeling nervous at all beforehand but my nerves started to kick in when I was on my way to the theatre… Anyway, got down there and everything was fine – think I went down about 1.15pm and was back in my room by 2.30 with big boobs lol…. Everything went ok – I have had 460cc overs and am in a little bit of pain but nothing unbearable… I got let out of hospital at about 10pm last night. I haven’t really slept properly cos I couldn’t get comfortable in bed…. Also I haven’t been given any proper information about what I can and can’t do other than no lifting for 7 days so if anyone has any advice for me it would be appreciated. I am pleased with my results and though my surgeon was great but didn’t rate the care in hospital very much and am pleased I didn’t stay there overnight….
I haven’t been told much at all and have a few questions I would like to ask:
How long do the dressings stay on for? will the nurse remove them next week when I go to see her?
How long do I have to sleep upright for?
My boobs seem quite far apart – how long will it take for them to come closer together and to soften?
If anyone can help answering the above I would aprreciate it….
Thanks
Hayley xx
hi haley,
congrats now youve had it done.
I’m 7 weeks post op. and had unders.
the dressings come off at your 7 day check , and then you can start laying down , its just to help with the swelling at first.
my boobs have been softening gradually and they go together now when i push them together and have just developed a slight wobble, i have heard it can take about 6 months to completely soften.
it might be quicker with overs though.
hope this helpss
xx
Hi tink
Thanks for you’re help….
Hopefully mine will soften quickly – they are soooo hard at the moment… hopefully the pain won’t get any worse than it is now luckily it hasn’t been too bad mind you I have been taking my pain killers every 4 hours at the moment…. How long was it after your op till you were able to drive?
What about having a shower? Are you able to do that after the dressings have been taken off….
Sorry for all the questions lol.
Thanks

Hi CB
I was an empty 34b before my surgery and am now wearing a 34 e sports bra. x
Hayley!!! Hello there.
I asked the nurses what room U were in but they looked at me stupid!
I totally agree with U ont he care situation .. I went into theatre at 3 was back in my room by 415, had BP etc taken twice within the hour and never seen a soul until after 10pm!!! Felt a bit neglected I suppose.
They let me go about 9am this morning and I rang the nurse from MYA when I got in to see if I needed my dressing changed cos there’s blood on them .. she told me do nothing til nxt wk when I go for post op check!
I’m in 34 c with 260 unders :0) .. also cant wait fo them to soften and come closer lol
How do u feel about yours?? happy with size? x x
Hiya – i just wrote to you on the other page we’d been chatting on…
The care wasn’t too good was it? I didn’t have anything to eat other than some toast after my op and nothing at all after that other than a cup of tea… The nurse was like mrs doubtfire who was dealing with me ha ha…
I feel fine about mine they aren’t as big as I thought they would be but thats a good thing really cos i think if they were any bigger then I don’t think I’d have liked them as much…. they don’t look out of proportion or anything either.
I have got blood on my dressings too but haven’t mentioned it to the nurse, think it’s just from when he’s stitched them and where my bra lies is pressing right on the scars so it’s a little uncomfortable but other than that I’m ok.
They are quite far apart mind but I’m sure they’ll come closer together once they soften a bit… I can’t wait to be able to lay down properly in bed and have a shower… I have just had a shallow bath and was glad to take my bra off for a little while… had to get my mam to wash my hair for me over the bath then when I got out… Still it’s not for long that we have to do this and it’ll be worth it in the end.
Have u got to go to Cardiff next week to have you’re dressings removed – I got to go on wed at 2pm to see the nurse.
Glad you are ok.
Speak soon

Hiya luckyme1609,
I was driving within 7 to 10 days and after i had my dressings off at 7 days the nurse put tapes on and said i could shower as long as i made sure it was all dry afterwards and to keep the tapes on 2 wks, but i took them off after having them on for 4 days and was soaking in the bath.
its horrible getting through that first week, sleeping proped up etc etc.
but there is light at the end of the tunnel xxx
im lil worried about sleeping after! its going to be hard because i like to sleep on my side and my boyfriend said he would sleep in front room on sofa bed incase he knocks them in his sleep lol! he does tend to cuddle me or lay his head on my chest in his sleep bless him so even though i will miss him
its prob for best lol. plus ill get to sleep starfish style which is always a bonus!!!
i hope the care is good when i get there there is nothing worse than being treated like that im naturally very chatty and friendly so i would like a warm reception.
tink how did you sleep propped up? did you use loads of pillows??
cant wait to be in same boat! take care xxx
hi again.
the answer to how i slept propped up is ‘ with great difficulty !!’
but i didnt have a v pillow, but i made my pillows into a v shape behind my back until i felt comfy.
but i didnt get much sleep at night that first week , but snoozed during the day on the sofa.
xx
Kelz,
I bought a V pillow and I can honestly say its well worth it! Dont know what I would have done without it. I even used it on the car journey home from Highgate to Derby and I had no discomfort at all!
With regards to the staff at Highgate I’m afraid they are not the friendliest but that’s just down to my experience, you might be lucky and get a friendly nurse. When I first arrived and the nurse came and did my blood pressure she was horrid! She kept saying to me ‘breathe properly breathe properly’ I told her I was trying but was just very nervous and she just turned her nose up at me. she was generally very arsey and rude!
