Hi, I am really confused with how this works. Do they always contact you gp. I have been to the doctors for anitidepressants when I was a teenager and the last time was just over 4 years ago. Do they need a letter from my gp saying i am ok now. Worried that my op will get postponed. Should I tell my pc. My depression was due to things that had happened. Any help appreciated. Oh i’m having a BA 6th march xx

Hey Hun, I was on anti depressants yrs ago and had my pre op on thurs due to have my ba on wed but got a call on Friday saying they needed to contact gp with regards to that and the fact I had a dvt previously, so can’t answer fully on the anti depressant side of things I’m just a bit annoyed its been left till now to tell me they may have to postpone gotta wait till mon to know if I definately got the go ahead for wed. Freaking out a bit now i hope they sort things for you x

They shouldnt leave it til the last minute. Thats what im worried about it being postponed maybe I should just call my pc and tell her and then they have 6 weeks to sort it out. Hope you get it all sorted. I think I ticked that they could contact my gp not sure if they still contact them if you put not to.xx

they left it to the last minute with me and i had to cancel. i think they should make people aware with the first consultation x

It should be the first thing they do and tell you all about it in the consultation. Especially as most of us have to book time of work and arrange for someone to help out xx

It’s best to let them contact your GP so that they can see your medical records to avoid any complications/delays with your surgery. I gave permission for them to contact my GP even though I’ve never been admitted to hospital before and I don’t really have anything significant in my medical history…just thought it was best to do so as my PC strongly advised that I allow them to. About 2 weeks ago I got a letter from my doctors surgery saying that MYA had requested my records and that I needed to pay £20 for it to be sent over as it’s not covered on the NHS. Haven’t had any problems at all with it. Op is in 3 days so they did it in a reasonable amount of time xx

I did tick yes as I know I have complications with my blood, I just feel they knew all this since nov and why let me have my pre op so close to op day and then decide they want to check it out. Up until now everything was going so well I hope they are able to sort it coz right now my emotions are a bit all over the place lol x

hi cazz24,i am still on antidrepessants, citaliprim 20mg daily i ticked that they could contact my gp, they also said to notify him, but i didnt, i was worried that he would talk me out of it, and i was really worried that he would send letter saying not to do as she not in right frame of mind- bad year for me, my sister died, moved house and broke up with hubby! anyway all they asked was how long was i on it for and why. i had my ba on 24 jan this year, so good luck and try not to worry. xxxxxxxxxx

gels, I was exactly the same….it all happened in the last week and I was waiting right up until the day before to discover that I was not having my op. We spent non refundable money on accomadation and got babysitters for the kids, hubby had a week off work etc… :( I don’t think it was MYAs fault though, I think it was the GP side of it that took so long (to them it just isn’t a priority at all). xx
