Do you, would you, wouldn’t you..why and why not etc?

Personally I agree with that you should have to opt out rather than opt in. xxx

I agree with you that you should have to opt out. I am on the register and my family know my wishes. It’s terrible that they could refuse when I’m gone though. Almost everyone would accept an organ so why not give one when you don’t need it anymore xx

My bf is a theater porter, and we speak bout his work all the time. Its really sad that when someone is critical in theater, not half as much energy goes into savin them. Say a call comes in that someone is critical, a call goes out to all to all available theater staff that a “harvest” is comin up, then everyone sort of stnds aronud with containers to put the harvested organs in. I no organ donor is brilliant, and I will donate mine, but I just hope it isnt done in such a way that im gonna b a product on a conveyor belt. If that makes sense?! Xxx

If someone dies in theater they can’t just take their organs there and then. They have to inform the family and ask for permission. If donation is a possibility the patient is put on life support to keep the organs oxygenated, until permission has been granted. But your life comes first and everything is done to try and save you x

Yeah there are a few things that can stop you from being able to donate, for example sometimes where and how you die. I hope I’m able to when my time is up x

im on the register, my best friend had kidney faliure and was on dyaliss for 5 years it was awfull, after 2 live donor transplants one of which was her dads, both failed she kinda gave up a bit of hope that shed ever get better.

then a 34 year old rta victim donated and the operation was sucsessful that was 4 years ago and my friend is full of life now.

seeing what she went through made me think, you cant take it when your gone and you could save so many lives what better way to leave this world. x

i now believe organ donation is a good thing and you should opt out rather than opt for it, years ago i never agreed with it because i watched a documentry saying how they turned life support machines off early because they wanted peoples organs. but i have had a change of heart regarding this subject and would def give up my organs, all except my eyes though coz i beleive eyes are the window to the soul so id wanna keep them ( you prob think im nutty for that comment lol) xx

thats mad maybe its a niki thing lol. i have met a few people who have felt the same about the eyes, i once read about a little boy who donated all his organs when he died, (he was on life support) but the one thing he asked his mother to do was not to donate his eyes. so he could look down on her from heaven xx

I would donate anything to save someone else’s life. I won’t need it when I’m dead and gone, so let someone else have I life if I can’t xx

i watched a programme once and they found a dead woman no idea who she was and they traced her through her serial number on her implants.

nikki i always thought the same about the eyes and im sure ive not ticked that on my form, that was untill i read katie pipers book, now im like take what you want eyes, skin they can have it all. x

I’m gonna donate everything including eyes. I liken to think that when I die a blind person will be able to see everything they have always wanted to see, I’m not gonna need them :-)

The ‘harvest’ comment has really freaked me out. Sounds like something out of a horror film! 😯

    Menu

It sounds awful but it’s not. When you work in that situation everyday it become a nickname. You become cosseted to it. To a outsider it sound horrific. Professionalism should come into play here and people should be watching what they are saying. To someone outside of the profession I.e. You guys, it makes it sound conveyer belt like but it’s really not. In the theatre they have to be prepared for everything so everything is on hand xx

I’m a nurse and have done a stint in theatre. Would just like to say that theatre staff fight hard to save every patients life regardless if they are on the organ donation register or not. They do not do a half arsed job at trying to save someones life just so they can ‘harvest’ their organs. X

    Menu

Exactly Katie. People who ain’t in the trade don’t understand the lingo. Nurses are on a register and accountable for there actions same as surgeons are. Every each individual who enters into a theatre as a patient is treated the same xx
