hey, i was reading that i need to take of my jewellery and remove any piercings, why is that? i have a VCH piercing and im really really scared of taking it out, i darent even take it out for a second, the thought of it makes me want to pass out, could i leave it in and not mentioit or doeas it have to be removed for medical reasons? thanks x
To be honest I don’t think it’ll make a difference it’s because they don’t want any carriers of bacteria, like piercings, to add to the risk of infection in theatre. But yours is so far from the area they’ll be operating on I think you’ll be fine. I’ve been under general anaesthetic before with my belly bar in. It’s best to speak to your surgeon about it tho as they know best. X
whats a VCH piercing?
my ops on wed and the nurse told me id have to take out all mine including my tongue piercing
gonna ask the doc if i can keep it in cuz it heals so quicky! x
its a vertical clitoral hood piercing. i tried looking it up online and theres loads of stuff about electric shocks in some surgeries, but i couldn’t find out anything about BA’s though, guess i’l see what the surgeon says although could be awkward to bring up. thanks x
faye dont worry i’ve got mine pierced too (another strange coincidence) it’ll be fine for a couple of hours or so… but apparently they put a tube down our throat so i have to take it out , thank good im asleep for that bit haha :S x
christine maybe you can replace it with a plastic one? i think it has something to do with the metal that we cant have them but im not sure… ring up your nurse and ask x
Ooff how on earth did you go through with that piercing??
Get dr aurakzi to remove and replace it 4 u when ur under lol x
hey girls i have quite a few piercings and am taking them all out its because of electric shocks rather than infection and i dont want to risk it x
haha it was absolute agony i screamed and swore lol, that sounds a good idea haha but the thought of him doing worries me, im a bit scared that if i take it out i won’t be able to see to put it back in haha with having boobs in the way, supose a nurse could meby do it though i’l av to ask haha. if it because of electric shock i might try an find a plastic one and hope they don’t mind me keeping it in. xxx
hi I was given lots of paperwork last week at my first consultation and in it, it does say that NO piercing are allowed to be left in during surgery…I recently had surgery on my shoulder and took my tongue piercing out, and didn;t put it back in until 3 hours later and it was fine…they don’t close up that quickly..even though people tell you they do…personally wouldn’t leave it any longer..but you will be fine..can’t answer your question about the other piercing…lol don’t have one of those….x
Ooooh I didn’t know about the electric shock risk factor, I’m deffo taking all mine out before the op. I’ll have to pop in to the piercing shop to get them to help me remove some of mine as I can’t get them off myself lol thanks for the info girls xx
I have about 30 piercings, I was told that Id be allowed to wear plastic bars. Go to your piercer & get a plastic bar put in hun. They wont even know its there so dont tell them.
I got to my op & was told I had to remove all the ones on my face, I wasnt impressed.
aw kool, i was gunna leave it in anywer but wasn’t sure the reason to take it out was, glad i found out now or i’d of been electocuted haha, but yea thanks guys, gunna go get a plastic one. xxx
Dont think its to do with infection coz they even go as far to ask if you have any metal pins in your body etc. I had a belly bar that had to come out. Best to mention it to be on safe side x
Hi ladies, MYA do ask that all piercings are removed prior to surgery. This is due to the diotherm that is used during surgery which can affect any other metal that is close to your skin. If you have any questions please be sure to contact your patient coordinator or clinic nurse. MYA x
