Evening all xx
I added a post a couple of days ago asking for advice on taking/not taking the pill pre op (thanks to those who replied).
Being an overimaginitive sod, i have to ask, us ladies are on the pill are advised not to take it, but what about those with the implant or having had the injection??? Surely nothing could be done about this so does that mean taking the pill is ok as it’s the same thing right??
Apologies if that sounds thick! :o( it just seems like 1 rule for 1 and 1 for the other when ultimately all 3 are the same and also some surgeons advise to not take it and some do????
I understand that were advised to stop taking it to prevent blood clots so what about implant/injection people with regards to that?
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks
Jo xxx
Im on the implant and i was told i could keep it in xx
dnt think the contraseptives r all the same, some work in different ways from others and expell diff hormones n stuff so must be sumthin in the pill that effects ur blood or wotever and not in the implant, injection xx
Plus to be honest theres not a right lot they can do about the implant or the injection. The implant can be a nightmare and quite traumatic to get out to then have it put in again a month later and the injection lasts for 3 months so once its in you’re stuck with it xx
Totally understand that hun, that’s what confuses me because if they not fussed about them then why be fussed about the pill, or only some of the surgeons.
Grr, if it was across the board ‘dont take the pill / any contraceptive’ i wouldnt think twice about it
xx
i have the injection and i was due to have my next injection 2 weeks before my operation and was told to leave it until after my op. if in doubt call your nurse. contraception wont be effective whilst you are on antibiotics remember aswell!! xx
When I told them I had injection they didn’t look best pleased about it but not much they could do, they didn’t explain any risks or anything tho but I guess if you can hold off tablets then it’s in your best interests as it minimises any risks x
Yeah i know hun, it’s not the pregnancy thing that worries me (the man has been told to get some man balloons
) im just on the pill for anoying irregular periods and having been on it 10myears i dont wanna wreck my cycle.
This is also my 3rd general anaestectic and this is the only time ive been told to stop taking it xx
I’m on the injection and my pc said if I’m due to have my next one in say december (my ops january)then not to have it.but if I’m not due till after then it dosent matter.confusing xx
isnt it because they dont work i have the coil and im sure ive heard that the anasthetic stops it from working for a while i know antibiotics are the same xx
yeah thats the thing, i know with any antibiotics it will stop the pill working and thats fine, just have to take other precautions prior to the op, and for a few weeks after i wont be able to have funtime anyway, if it’s just because the antibiotics stop it working then cant i continue my pill? xx
i have the injection pill i was due to have it 2 days b4 my op. i asked my surgeon can i still have he said yes it was fine still have the injection x
if in doubt ask your surgeon direct x
in the lil booklet with my pill it has warning about it raising your chances of getting DVT and blood clots etc. & during/after an op ur more susceptible to that even more so, so i think thats why your not allowed to take it xx
I have the coil and kept it in. Was fine I’m 8 weeks po xx
