Post op – how till you could breathe through your nose?

Hi, had my op yesterday and feeling quite rough today. The nurse said i should be able to breathe through my nose today but its totally blocked. Someone else said it can take up to 4 weeks! Just wondering how long it took other people? My throat is really dry/sore and i just can’t wait to be able to breathe through my nose again! xx

Mine was about day 3 honey when all the dried blood came out,you will be swollen inside and all the clogged blood wont help,take some throat sweets honey,your lips will probably get very dry too,so use lip balm,xxx

not had my ba yet but this post has interested me, can you tell me why you cant breathe through your nose? want to be prepared for everything before i have my op! xx

Ah that’s not too bad. Did the blood just come out or did you have to get it out? My bad throat is stopping me from taking my tablets too, can just about sip water. Good idea

Put your antibiotic in a teaspoon of honey,it will slide down your throat and ease the pain,my nose started to run after a couple of days and that brought most of the blood out,but some of it was clogged solid,I just used cotton balls soaked in warm water,boiled first,to clean the blood away,I didnt touch inside my nose I was too scared,If it gets too bad and you cant clean it,ring the nurse and see if you can go in and she can clean it for you,if you are close to your MYA clinic.xxx

Yeah i think i’ll have to try something like that. I’m not good a taking tablets on the best of days Was there any sign of your nose being unblocked the day after surgery? Mine just feels sooo stuffed xx

hi harri, i had my op last thurs and im still blocked on day6, also sore mouth as its constantly dry as im breathing thro it!! they say dont touch your nose so how do we clean it? ive rang the nurse just waiting for her to get back to me as feel i should be getting better by now. hope you’re ok and everything went well xxxjulie

I’m the same as julie and i still can’t breathe through my nose either!! i feel like its got snot up there now too but obvs can’t blow it to get it out! so frustrating!! i wonder when we can breathe again!! xxxx

I am 5 months post op and I still cant breathe 100% normally yet .. especially when I get warm and stuffy xx Hopefully back to normal in a few months, as it can take up to 12months for everything to settle back to normal xx

personally i could breathe fine through my nose as soon as my packing was taken out xo

I had septo rhinoplasty, which is the most invasive rhinoplasty procedure, so I think thats why I am taking longer than normal, I suppose it depends what procedure you had and how your body deals with it x

To be honest I had my operation last September and open Rhinoplasty and I still have days where I can’t breathe perfectly, it’s just the internal swelling. Off Topic… my dog accident put his paw on my nose quite roughly this morning and it hurt a bit, luckily no permament damage. xxx

Hope your ok littlechelle,I am almost 9 weeks post op from open septo,I could breathe through my nose around day 3,but this last week it has felt very swollen and blocked more than ever,I cant breathe at all through it now,but I love it. it looks good,and I can breathe through my mouth so Im happy,I think it is fluctuation in swelling inside the nose,its been through major trauma,it will take a while to settle.xxxx

im just over 2months post op now and i still cant breathe properly! i could breathe straight away after the op, but when i saw DR G last tues he said its because of my swelling going up and down, i notice when my nose looks really small (so not much swelling) i can breathe fine but once it swollen like today i cant i sound like a pig! but he said all normal, my swelling will take 16mon ths tho 😮 as long as i got a small nose i dont care bout breathing haha xx

Littlechelle, I had someone smack into my nose by accidentally hard, I had to go and see dr G cos it’s actually swollen up back to like it was a few months ago (plus I have a horrendous cold) but he said its fine, no damage and my hit was hard so I’m sure urs is fine! In pain now too a bit x x

Thanks for your replies. It’s still really blocked, no chance of me breathing through it anytime soon i can see. It’s just making my throat sooo sore i cant swallow anything (even hurts to swallow water) :,(

Hi honey, haves my op yesterday and can get air out of my nostrils but not back in. Have the sore throat too but I just keep thinking not long now. I think everyone is different. Oh and I have a lovely swollen eye, look like a pirate, arrhh! We’ll get there! X

just reading yr posts . .i.m sat here with lots of tissue stuffed up my nostrils . . trying to imagine discomfort, ha . .feels weird . .i do breathe alot thru my nose due exercise etc . .keep thinking it’ll be worth it .. making mental notes of what i need to have to ease the problems . .this forum a blessing knowing we can share . .has helped me so much . .thx Girlies xx..

Yeah I agree, this forum has been amazing! Would be feeling so alone without it!

Still cant breathe through my nose. This morning I could breathe out of one side but now it’s gone back to stuffy

still no luck for me, 8days after op still bunged up. was given the nasal spray to use but it just drips down as if cant get up!! also very itchy face which is driving me mad more thank the blocked nose. xxj

Hi girls – does anyone think closed is better for recovery?!!!! Evelyn – would be keen to know who you had and if open or closed? x
