    Hi lovely ladies,

I had my pre-op assessment yesterday with the nurse & all went well. Had my blood pressure taken, chatted about the op, was given lots of stuff to read, and then it came to taking note of my height & weight. I’m very slim & petite so have never really cared much about how heavy I am. As a result I wasn’t sure & guessed 7 stones. It turns out I’m under 7 stones which put my BMI at 17.5 – underweight. The nurse even asked me if I’ve ever had an eating disorder!! =s

I just feel that BMI numbers aren’t worth the paper they are written on. I eat very well, have lots of energy & feel great. Any other ladies had this issue? I had to have blood taken (which I HATE!) all due to supposedly being underweight & now I’m worried they will cancel my surgery coz I’m not heavy enough!

I’m scared that I may be classed as overweight as I’m very tall and do weigh a lot but I don’t look over weight just slightly chubby. If we feel healthy I don’t think it should matter x

I had a bmi of 17.8. I’m very tall and slim. The nurse didn’t mention it as a problem at all and I didn’t have blood taken but it turned out they wanted a letter from my GP to confirm fitness for surgery and when I quizzed them about it apparently it was because of my bmi (I say apparently as I was told a different reason another time!) all you will need is your GP to respond to the letter mya sents just confirming there is no reason why you can’t have surgery. It was a bit unprofessional for the nurse to insinuate you had an eating disorder when your right, bmi is rubbish! A few hoops to jump through due to procedures but you will get your surgery x

Don’t worry I was the same, I am also classed as ‘underweight’ but I feel perfectly healthy and fine, I think it was quite rude of the nurse to ask if you had an eating disorder! Some people might be seriously offended by that.

At my pre-op the nurse also took my blood because of me being underweight but the blood test came back fine.
Mya contacted my GP to see if there was any reason why I’m underweight and I was worrying so much that I might not be able to have my surgery because of this but believe me it’s totally fine. I had my operation on Saturday and everything went fine, the fact that I’m underweight didn’t affect the anaesthesia.

Good luck you’ll be fine ? xx

I’m classed as underweight too, my bmi is 18. I eat like a pig though haha I just have good genes as my whole family are slim, don’t worry about it hun. So rude from the nurse though! Xx
