Hi girls – question for those who have had the op already!

How long were you actually unable to do things for? A friend of mine told me she was bedridden for 2 weeks but somehow I think that is an exaggeration?!

i’m 5 days post op now and still pretty sore and limited when it comes to arm movement. We did a big shop yesterday and my other half had to pick things off shelves for me, put it into the trolley, load onto the checkout and then pack. I can do small things, but can’t lift, push or pull anything heavy or lift my arms for a long time.(brushing my teeth even aches) I have been in bed for a lot of the past 5 days, i’m hoping in another couple of days i’ll be a lot more able and mobile. And a lot of people go back to work after a week, but anything too strenuous just makes them ache more. She may not have been far off the truth!

depends what you do at work, but i think 4 days may be a little optimistic. I often lift very heavy things and do lots of stretching and reaching so made sure i took 1 week off and already had 1 week annual holiday booked the following week.

I’m a healthcare assistant on an outpatients department, I dont do any lifting really….

I do 3 & half days so was going to try to work it so that I could do half day on the thursday (then try to get the op in that afternoon), day off on friday then obviously off sat & sun, have mon as my day off then do the afternoon shift on tues. That would mean I have 4 & half days recovery. Yeah defo a bit optimistic lol x

Good luck x

In that case, you might be ok, it’s just silly things like having to reach to flick a switch on or open a heavy door that’ll be a pain but other than that you should be ok. Good luck! X

I was great my first week, limited arm movement but I reckon I could have gone to work.

After about day 8 OMG I felt worst than I ever did. Bruising & swelling started to happen around the sides n I could hardly lift myself off the sofa. Was the same with my friend who had hers done the week before.

Id make sure you take a week off & warn ur employer you may need more. Just in case.

Hey all, I have my op on the 20th Jan, having 300cc overs with uplift. I’ve booked 2 weeks off work for recovery…I’m really hoping that 2 weeks will be enough for the healing…??? I informed my supervisor and manager of my op recently…i guess i felt it was important because i work with young people and i knew i would have to be on light duties for a while. They were so supportive to me. If in doubt ladies you can always inform your HR department (which is confidential) if you feel you cannot speak to your first line managers etc. Good luck ladies xxxx

hey babe, I wasnt bedridden but i was resticted as to what i could do with my arms for about 3 weeks but i went back to work after 2 weeks as i work in a office. Speed bumps and putt holes hurt when in a car for about 3 weeks. just ensure you have a high impact sports bra or a Macom compression bra to take the impact away from you new boobs. some days i felt better than others and first few days i had no pain but on my 5th-6th day the pain was mind blowing.

Sleeping upright for 2 weeks was a task as well. get a V pillow if you can…wish i did as it sounds quite useful to some others on here. hope this helps. xx

hi am 2 weeks post op tomorrow and currently writting this at work. I was told to take a week off but its different for everyone. I have to say i was fine up and about from day 2 despite being limited on arm movements etc. You will need some one to do all lifting etc for you (internet shopping is great or do it before hand and bring cups etc down from cupboards as you cant reach up). But you really should keep moving and being up and about. I was told by nurse, pc and surgoen that the worst thing i could do was to sit around and not to hold arms close to sides as is the tendancy due to this discomfort as this may relieve it temperarily but will prolong it too. Don’t get me wrong wou still have to take it easy but not be bed ridden either if you get what i mean. xxx you will be fine but i would suggest you take a full week and remember even after that you can’t raise your arms or do likfting for 6 weeks.

Unders will take you longer to recover from than overs, so it depends on what you’re having.

I had overs, and probably definitely needed to spend the first 3/4 days just sitting/laying about, and then slowly after that was able to start really gently pottering about, but I certainly wasn’t up for anything much for the first couple of weeks.
