Hi ladies I have been offered a surgery date for two weeks after my next consultation to fit around work and kids. I’ve been offered the 16th aug but had booked a week away on the 15th. It’s only a caravan hol about two hour drive away (hubby driving). This could be a good thing because my husband is already off for a week and knows he will be mainly seeing to the little ones, kids will have plenty to do and no housework or cooking to worry about. Do you think we should still go or will I just be too sore and should stay close to home?
I don’t think you could do the 2 hour drive without being in a lot of pain, the bumping of the car really hurts and you won’t be able to walk around for long times they will pull down on the incisions and that hurts too 🙁
Ah thanks I thought that may be the case 🙁 I may have to postpone my surgery then it would be unfair on the children to cancel their holiday it’s all they were getting this yr as we didn’t want to go abroad with the baby yet. Thanks for the advice xx
i had a 2 and half hour drive back from manchester after my surgery (day case) i was absolutely fine. no pain….even stopped at macdonalds lol. didnt get home till 1.30am. xx
Take a pillow and put between your new twins and the seatbelt 🙂 and ask the hubby to go easy on the driving. I think a holiday would be nice but i like my home comforts and my own bed too much! The first week sleep is a nightmare (or was for me)! Plus i wanted to stay near clinic/hospital just incase i had to go back. Id say enjoy your holiday and then have surgery. Lol i can see where your dilemma lies!.. I started off sayin yeah go on holiday and went on to completely contradict myself! :s xxx
Would defo try postpone it, least then you can have fun with the kids too
Everyone’s pain is different, I had none when I woke from my first op, but I did this time, same surgeon
I had a 2 hour drive home. Had my op at 10.05am and was on the way home at 5.30pm. Drive was ok but I felt extremely tired once home. Think ud be more comfortable at home, its not great trying to sleep sitting up in my lovely bed, so I cant imagine being able to sleep in a caravan bed…it prob wouldn’t help the pain either. I think you should delay the surgery hun. Have a lovely holiday with your family and book it for when ur back..time goes so fast anyways so a few weeks difference will fly by
Thanks everyone my problem is I work in a school and can’t have time off during term time and my husband won’t be able to take anymore time off to help with the little ones x
It is possible, some ladies stay in a hotel for a couple nights after surgery if they live far from the hospital..you would need to take lots of pillows and a V pillow and maybe ur big duvet from home. Ur not really guna be able to take part in much of the holiday but I’m sure u already know that 🙂 a caravan wont be as homely and comfortable as home but it is do able. Maybe take a fan with u to incase the room gets hot and maybe am iPad or something similar if u haven’t got a tv in the bedroom. Xx
I think I might have to do it that way. I know I won’t be able to do much with the children but they have me off with them all summer and we do loads of days out. I’ve just looked and the next time I’d be able to do it would be Easter next year in order to have two weeks off driving. Even If I were able to take time off work during school time id have to drive my children to school anyway 🙁
I don’t think it would be do able, more so if you’re having unders! You’ll be so tired and uncomfy for at least a week and the drive will be torture! Also, doing too much ealry on can lead to problems with bleeds so you’d be best to postpone. Good luck xx
